Legendary filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, and actor Rob Reiner was found deceased at his home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California, on December 14, 2025. He was 78.

Reiner, best known as the director of the 1989 romcom When Harry Met Sally…, had been fatally stabbed alongside his wife, Michele Singer, 68. Their younger son, Nick Reiner, 32, is the suspected killer, according to multiple sources, including PEOPLE.

Nick is a screenplay writer. Rob Reiner and Michele Singer also leave behind two other children: son Jake Reiner, who is an actor-writer, and daughter Romy Reiner, a photographer, artist, and writer.

In fact, it was Romy who found her parents unresponsive at their residence and called for help on Tuesday afternoon. However, when the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on scene to provide emergency medical aid, it was too late.

In the wake of the “apparent homicide,” YouTuber Tim Pingel claimed during one of his recent livestreams that a family member of the Reiners was “moved by SWAT.” Similarly, Intel Point Alert posted the “unconfirmed chatter” on X that Nick Reiner was “escorted off the scene.”

All about Rob Reiner’s three children

Rob Reiner and Michele Singer welcomed their firstborn, Jake Reiner, in 1991, two years after their wedding.

Jake is an alumnus of Syracuse University and is in a romantic relationship with Maria Gilfillan, aka @riagilfilly, according to his Instagram profile. In the past, he was a Junior Dodgers broadcasting intern.

Now, he has channelled his love for baseball and hosting as the co-host of The Incline: Dodgers Podcast with David Rosenthal and Kevin Klein. As the name suggests, it focuses on everything related to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jake and Rob Reiner sat down for an exclusive Father’s Day interview with PEOPLE in June 2023 and shared their mutual love for baseball.

“There’s nothing like the ballpark. My dad was a huge, huge baseball fan. He passed it onto me, and I passed it onto Jake… We would go to at least 25 or 40 games a year… His grandfather [the late Carl Reiner] would be absolutely thrilled to know about Jake's Dodgers podcast and that we're here today at the game,” Rob stated at the time.

Meanwhile, the son added:

"My dad and I talk daily about the Dodgers. I've got a lot of opinions, and so does he."

The All in the Family actor shared that the idea of passing down the game from fathers to their sons was “beautiful and personal” and even shared an anecdote about Dodgers legend Shawn Green.

"Jake loved Shawn Green as a kid, so we took him to the ballpark for his 8th birthday, and he had made a little ceramic thing at school that he wanted to give to Shawn as a present. We met him down in the locker room, and Shawn took the gift. That day, he hit two homers," Rob Reiner stated.

However, he mentioned that the “best part of the story” was that years later Green threw his “batting glove” to Jake after a “home run.” When Reiner Jr asked whether Shawn still kept his “ceramic gift,” the NBA player responded by saying it had been in his “locker” ever since that day.

As for Romy Reiner, she is the youngest of the three Reiner siblings and was born in 1997. She appeared in the 2023 Netflix comedy You People with Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, and Lauren London, among others. She is also a photographer/ artist like her mother.

Romy, who has 38,200 Instagram followers on her main account, is also a rock collector. Her account @romysrocks has the bio:

“Amateur rock hound, tumbler, and treasure finder.”

She is the writer and director of the short film, Here to Stay.

Nick Reiner was born in 1993. The middle child has had a history of alcohol abuse and drug addiction since he was 15 and had attended 17 different rehab facilities by the time he was 19.

During his 2016 appearance on the Dopey Podcast to promote his semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, Nick spoke largely about his addiction and sobriety journey, homelessness, and being rescued from the streets by his two siblings.

Being Charlie was co-written by Nick and Rob Reiner and was also directed by the latter. Nick also worked on the 2004 PBS talk show Tavis Smiley and the SAMHSA 2016 Voice Awards.

The motive behind Rob Reiner and Michele Singer’s double murders remains unknown. LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division is currently investigating the case.

The Reiner family confirmed the deaths with “profound sorrow” via a statement to Variety and asked for “privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.” They also added being “heartbroken by the sudden loss.”

During his decade-long marriage to late actress Penny Marshall between 1971 and 1981, Rob Reiner adopted Penny’s daughter, Tracy Reiner, whom she shared with her ex-husband, Michael Henry. Tracy is also an actress and mother of five, who has appeared in Die Hard, Apollo 13, and A League of Their Own.
