Actor Ryan Guzman, known for his role as Noah Sandborn on The Boy Next Door, shared his feelings about the film and his overall experience in Hollywood.
In March 2025, he sat down on the Zach Sang Show podcast, where host Zach Sang asked if he felt s*xualised in the film. Agreeing to Sang’s question, the actor said:
“It's a weird thing to talk about as a man because you know, a lot of people, you get eye rolls I'm like you know you're dude you must like it.”
He went on:
“Not just boy next door on plenty of sets, you know. They'll say the passing remarks or something and even to this day, you know. But you kind of just roll with it and if you want to give it weight, it'll take you down. I just kind of take it like all, right? That's your perspective and thank you for finding me attractive. Great, so I try take the good from it.”
Ryan Guzman shared that, as a man, people usually didn’t take it seriously when he talked about the downsides of being considered attractive. He felt that others often brushed it off or didn’t show much sympathy, making it a strange and uncomfortable topic to bring up.
Dan Zolot asked how his fans recognised him on the streets. Ryan Guzman said people recognised him from Step Up, 9-1-1, or The Boy Next Door.
He added that, depending on the staring, he could understand which one of these shows or movies it was. When Zolot asked how he could differentiate, the actor replied:
“There's a certain stare I get from Boy Next Door. They seen one scene specifically and it runs their mind as soon as they see me and I know it and they try to hide it, but I'm like you know, I'm just appreciative they enjoyed the movie.”
Why does Ryan Guzman want to keep a low profile?
Ryan Guzman mentioned that more people had recently started recognizing him for his role in Step Up, with many telling him he was their childhood crush. It made him feel older when they revealed they were just seven or eight years old when they first watched the film.
He also shared that he had been getting noticed more often for his role in 9-1-1, especially when he had a mustache that made him more recognizable. However, he explained that in general, he wasn’t often approached in public and preferred to keep a low profile and live a regular life. Ryan Guzman said:
“It's perfect. It's so perfect I would not want to be a Jennifer Lopez or any kind of like A-list celebrity, like even the Jake Paul thing. Like I would not want to be that kind of celebrity.”
When Dan Zolot asked Ryan Guzman if working with Jennifer Lopez on The Boy Next Door gave him a glimpse into the intense world of fame, Guzman shared that the experience made him realize he didn’t want that level of celebrity attention.
He explained that many people, including himself, cannot differentiate between an actor and a celebrity. He eventually understood that promoting a film, through interviews, podcasts, and marketing, was a different job from acting itself.
