Tony Adams, whose full name was Anthony Sawley Adams, was a Welsh actor with English and Norwegian roots. He was well-known for two roles he played on television. He appeared in 304 episodes of General Hospital as Dr Neville Bywaters. Another show that he was known for was Crossroads. He played the character of Adam Chance for 260 episodes.

Before starting his career in Hollywood, Adams studied at the Italia Conti Stage School. He began his acting career as a child when he was cast beside Kenneth Williams in a production of Peter Pan at the Scala Theatre. Adams also worked with Cheryl Kennedy and David Essex.

Adams passed away on Saturday (October 25) in Sussex County Hospital in Brighton while he was with his wife. Adams was 84 when he died.

Michael Rose, a theatrical producer, called Adams an "absolute joy". He added:

"He was one of the warmest gentlemen you could wish to work with... He was an absolute joy. He was a dancer originally, but there was nothing Tony couldn't do... He was a very accomplished actor, he was a really good dancer and singer... He played Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and was a joy to have in the company, as he was in every company. We shall miss him."

Actor and writer, Paul Chuckle, also wrote on X:

"So sad to hear of the passing of Tony Adams. Barry and I worked with Tony in pantomime @RoyalNottingham 2000 -2001 what a lovely man ... RIP Tony"

Jayne Tunnicliffe, a former Coronation Street performer, said:

"Very sad news. I enjoyed his cameo appearance in 'Nolly'. Crossroads was one of my mum's favourite soaps back in the 70s and 80s."

English film and television actor Augustus Prew portrayed Tony Adams in the drama Nolly. In one interview, he called him a "magical man."


Tony Adams will be remembered for his kindness, talent, and the joy he brought to his work. He touched many hearts through his performances and warm personality. His legacy will continue to live on through the memories he left behind. The actor died on Saturday at the age of 84.
