Bobby Berk, the designer on Queer Eye, recently discussed why he and his husband, Dewey Do, have chosen not to create a family. He said it stems from how he feels about the world right now and how busy he is, and that it’s not a judgment against others who may choose differently.

"We have decided it's not for us."

At a gathering in Los Angeles on September 11, 2025, Berk told People that having children is something they considered, but they realized parenting would be hard for them right now. He said,

"I just don't have enough time to devote [to parenting]"

Berk also said that one of the reasons why he and Do decided not to have kids is his career. Because of his tight schedule, he believes that parenting would feel difficult.

What did Bobby Berk say about their decision?

Bobby Berk said the world feels complicated. He said that in "this day and age," he thinks bringing a child into the world would be hard.

"I mean, in this day and age — and this is not to knock anybody's decision to have or not have kids — but for me, I would just have a hard time bringing any child into the world right now."

He also said that his busy schedule means there would not be enough time for parenting. He has many demands on his time. Work, travel, hosting shows, and designing - these all take hours from his life. He said he would struggle to balance parenting with all that.

Another thing he noted is being at peace with what they have. Bobby Berk said life with Do is fulfilling. He said having a dog that they love helps fill some of the care and bonding that a family brings. So, instead of children, the couple focuses on their dog, Bimini. They spoil Bimini with good food and care. Dewey, who is a surgeon, often cooks special meals for her. Berk joked about how Bimini is "very spoiled." He said:

"He cooks for her, and it's usually bison or rack of lamb with sweet potatoes and peas and carrots. No processed food for her. It's not plated. She's not that bougie."

Berk also reflected on long years with Do. They have been together for more than 20 years.

How do Bobby Berk & his husband Dewey live and what matters most to them?

Bobby Berk said that they celebrate their life together in simple and quiet ways. For their anniversaries, they do not make big plans. Berk said,

"He and I have never really been like anniversary people or birthday people. It's funny, we used to always laugh that neither of us knew it was our anniversary until Facebook would tell us."

Instead of big celebrations, they enjoy being together daily. Berk said,

"You know, we love to just take a little weekend trip here and there."

Work is also a central part of Bobby Berk's life. He is working on a new HGTV show called Junk or Jackpot?. Because of that, he has many responsibilities. Still, they seem happy with their life as it is. They value love, companionship, and caring for Bimini. They find meaning and joy in their relationship. They do not seem to feel like something is missing. Their life together seems built around what feels right to both of them.

No matter the choice, Bobby Berk emphasized respect for others. He said his decision is just for him and Do. He said he hopes others see that people make different decisions for many reasons, and that happiness does not always come from following expected paths.
