Why Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks turned the ‘Better Sister’ set into a summer camp experience

Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks wanted the set of their new show to feel fun and friendly. So, instead of just working long days and going home, they turned it into something more like a summer camp. The show is called The Better Sister. It is a mystery series based on a book by Alafair Burke, where Biel and Banks play sisters who haven’t spoken in a long time. But they are forced to come together after someone they both knew is killed. The story is serious, but behind the scenes, things were light, fun, and full of laughter.

During filming, the cast said Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks made sure everyone had a good time. They didn’t just act in the show, they also made sure people felt welcome, happy, and relaxed while working. According to cast members, the two stars planned activities, group outings, and fun nights off set. Maxwell Donovan, Gloria Reuben, and Gabriel Sloyer, who are also in the show, said filming on Long Island last summer felt like being at camp with friends. Donovan told Page Six:

“It was a pretty dreamy summer. They were so intentional about setting everything up to be just perfect.”

Gabriel Sloyer shared that Jessica Biel took the cast to a Justin Timberlake concert. She is married to Timberlake, so they got good seats, right near the front. Sloyer joked that at first, he thought the singer was waving at him. Then he realized Timberlake was waving at Jessica Biel. Elizabeth Banks also planned a fun night out. She took the cast to Club Cumming in New York City. Sloyer said the leadership from Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks made everyone feel right at home.

Kim Dickens and Bobby Naderi, who also act in the show, told Page Six there was also a padel tournament. Dickens laughed while saying:

“Jess was pretty solid at it — that’s why she set it up.”

The actors said all these fun moments made the set feel relaxed. Instead of being stressed, people were smiling. Everyone got to know each other better. That helped with the acting, too, because they felt more connected as a team.

The show was filmed on Long Island. While that area is known for its quiet beaches and big houses, the actors spent most of their time working, with breaks for activities planned by Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks. Donovan said the pair made sure that every moment on set felt special:

“It was like every moment, they were so intentional. They really wanted everything to be just right.”
