Robert Pattinson has credited James Dean as a major influence because he admired Dean’s voice and style. He even tried copying Dean’s accent, feeling that it helped him capture the same appeal that made Dean so beloved.
In a recent statement reported by Far Out Magazine, Pattinson revealed that he's heavily influenced by Dean, stating:
"I tried copying James Dean’s accent just because I’ve always wanted James Dean’s voice. I think that is why it has worked. Everyone loves a bit of James Dean"
However, this is not the first time Pattinson has mentioned Dean in his interview. The actor has many times credited Dean for a big early influence, especially in shaping his style in Twilight. Robert Pattinson also starred in the drama Life, released in 2015, which revolved around photographer Dennis Stock and James Dean.
Robert Pattinson talks about Life and James Dean
Robert Pattinson, in a statement reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, said he doesn’t think he’s ever had the same impact as James Dean. He noted that while young people admired Dean and looked to him for guidance, he had never experienced that kind of attention himself.
Robert Pattinson explained that in the drama Life, James Dean’s character was already disillusioned and frustrated. However, Pattinson’s own character, photographer Dennis Stock, experiences the events with excitement, not fully realizing everything that was happening.
He further added:
"I felt like there was a door in front of me left open and you could just keep pushing the door with no idea of what was on the other side. I was just curious. I didn't realise until years later that you can't turn any of it off: the door has slammed behind you."
After Life, Pattinson has appeared in many famous movies, including The Batman, Tenet, and Die My Love.
Revealing how he chooses the role in the interview with ICON Magazine, the actor said:
"Sometimes it's as simple as just wanting to work with a certain actor. I'm also drawn to quirky scripts."
He further revealed:
"I like to have several things going on. We just finished our first production from scratch, and it was quite an experience. I was in New Orleans and didn't go outside. I don't even remember being there. I took my daughter to Mardi Gras. That's all I did."
