Will Christopher Nolan work with Tom Holland again? Director shares praise and plans

Tom Holland is set to have a busy July this year as two movies starring him are releasing that month: The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Odyssey is the first movie to release first on July 17, 2026. The latest trailer of Christopher Nolan's upcoming Greek epic released this Monday on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”.

Nolan sat down for an interview with Stephen Colbert and discussed the movie in detail with the late night host. Their conversation veered towards the inclusion of Tom Holland as Telemachus in The Odyssey. The comedian and host asked the filmmaker about Holland, and the latter had nothing but postive things to say about the actor.

What did Nolan say about Tom Holland?

While discussing Tom Holland, Nolan praised the actor and said that he would love to work with the actor in again. The filmmaker's exact words were:

“He’s amazing. I’ve not worked with him before, but I would love to work with him again. I mean, he’s just an incredible talent. He’s so, so great.”

Then, when Colbert pointed out that the cast of The Odyssey includes Tom, Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Anne Hathaway, actors who have been involved in superhero franchises, Nolan drew a parallel between the modern-day superhero movies and The Odyssey, saying:

“Even comic book culture, whether you’re talking about Marvel or D.C. or all the rest, a lot of it comes directly from the Homeric Epics. The thing about Homer is, nobody knows if that was a person. Homer, in a way, is the sort of George Lucas of his time.”

Then, he continued:

“The thing about Homer, it is the Marvel of its day. It’s very directly this desire for us to feel or believe gods could walk amongst us, and I think the modern comic book is kind of our expression of that.”

Therefore, it seems that there will be a lot of things common between The Odyssey and Marvel apart from Tom Holland.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases just two weeks after The Odyssey:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31, 2026, two weeks after The Odyssey. As the Christopher Nolan movie is taking up IMAX screens this July, Brand New Day is sitting out an IMAX release. Set four years after No Way Home, the upcoming Spider-Man movie follows Peter Parker navigating through a world that has forgotten him. The official synopsis reads:

"Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves."

The synopsis continues:

"Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he's devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced."
