In her third feature-length film, Emerald Fennell is coming up with Wuthering Heights next year. It is a Gothic erotic psychological drama that she has co-written, co-produced, and directed. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are in the leads as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively.

It was first announced in July 2024, and the lead characters were confirmed in September of the same year. While Margot Robbie is acting in the movie, she will be producing Emerald's film. She has produced her other two films, Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023), too.

The film is originally based on an 1847 novel Emily Brontë wrote, which was later adapted for more films, TV shows, and theater. However, the novel became a subject of controversy for the elements it included; it is considered one of the greatest literary works ever produced.

As of this writing, the film is currently scheduled for release on February 11, 2026, in the United Kingdom and a few days later in the United States.

In addition to that, there's also a teaser available on YouTube that will give you a glimpse of what you can expect from the upcoming movie.

The cast of Wuthering Heights

Margot Robbie is the leading lady of the movie. Though we usually see her playing characters who are cheery and crazy, like in the films including Suicide Squad (2016), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Barbie (2023), and more, this will be a much more serious (and naughty) role.

Jacob Elordi is the leading man here and is currently making a buzz on the internet for his portrayal of The Creature in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein. His transformation in the film, especially, is a hot topic among the fans.

The rest of the film's cast (via IMDb) includes,

  • Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton
  • Owen Cooper as Young Heathcliff
  • Martin Clunes as Mr. Earnshaw
  • Hong Chau as Nelly Dean
  • Ewan Mitchell as Whip-Wielding Man
  • Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton
  • Robert Cawsey as Gallows Master
  • Charlotte Mellington as Young Catherine
  • Vy Nguyen as Young Nelly Dean
  • Andrew Charles Davis as Grave Digger 1

More names are likely to be added to the film, but this is every actor attached to the project as of this writing.

What did Emerald say about Margot Robbie's character in the film?

youtube-cover

In a September 2025 interview with BBC, Emerald Fennell talked about Margot Robbie's character, Cathy, who is actually presented as "dark-skinned" in the novel, that she is,

"So beautiful and interesting and surprising, and she is the type of person who, like Cathy, could get away with anything. I think, honestly, she could commit a killing spree and nobody would mind. And that is who Cathy is to me. Cathy is somebody who just pushes to see how far she can go. So it needed somebody like Margot, who’s a star, not just an incredible actress—which she is—but somebody who has a power, an otherworldly power, a Godlike power, that means people lose their minds."

We don't know the plot of the film, so we cannot say if this film adaptation of Wuthering Heights is sticking to the source material or giving it a new spin.
