Country star Zach Bryan has never been shy about speaking his mind, especially when it comes to football. On August 8, the 29 year old Something in the Orange singer and proud Philadelphia Eagles fan found himself at the centre of a social media storm after taking aim at Kansas City Chiefs' supporters.

The controversy started when Zach Bryan revisited last season’s chatter from Chiefs fans who had been confident their team would make NFL history with a three-peat. That dream ended with the Eagles defeating them in February’s Super Bowl, and Bryan didn’t miss the chance to poke at the wound. His post on X instantly caught attention, and it didn’t take long for the conversation to spiral.

Zach Bryan says he'll “never play” in Kansas City

In his post, Zach Bryan wrote:

Where are all the three peat people from last year,” a clear jab at the team’s missed milestone.

While some fans laughed it off, others took it personally, pointing out that the same Chiefs' supporters he was mocking also buy tickets to his concerts.

One user called him out for “singling out” the fanbase that sells out his shows, which led to Zach Bryan doubling down. In a repost, he announced:

“Please understand I will never play in Kansas City,” despite having performed there multiple times in recent years, including two successful shows last August at T-Mobile Arena.

The back and forth didn’t stop there. He joked that if he ever played at the Chiefs’ stadium, he’d probably “get a taunting call” right before finishing his set, a playful nod to football penalties. When a fan suggested he should remove Fifth of May Live from Kansas City from his live album, Zach Bryan simply replied, “Done brother,” though as of August 10, the track was still streaming on Spotify.

Bryan seemed to enjoy the stir he’d caused, posting more quips throughout the day.

“I missed it here guys, let’s p**s some people off” he wrote, later adding, “All u have to do to piss off a Chiefs fan is play a fair game of football.”

He followed it up by reminding everyone that “it’s okay to talk trash” about the sport and that fans “are weird as hell” if they can’t handle it.

This isn’t the first time Bryan has clashed with the Chiefs’ orbit. Last year, he made headlines after a drunken tweet comparing Taylor Swift to Kanye West caused backlash. He later apologized, explaining he’d been going through a rough time and didn’t mean to disrespect Swift’s music.

Whether his Kansas City boycott is permanent or just a heat-of-the-moment dig remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain Zach Bryan knows exactly how to fire up a football crowd, even when there’s no game on.
