General Hospital Confusion: Why Trina's obsession with her parents' marriage is just plain silly

Why is General Hospital's 22-year-old Trina Robinson so concerned with Portia and Curtis' marriage? All she can do is talk about how much she loves her dad and how much it hurts her that her parents are splitting up. Now, she blames Portia for the problems after learning of her affair with Isaiah, but the whole plot has one big hole — Curtis is barely Trina's father.

It wasn't even three years ago when Trina still thought that Marcus Taggert was her dad. After all, he raised her and she never knew otherwise. When she learned that her mother had lied all those years, she was devastated and promised that Taggert would always be her father. Yes, she wanted to get to no Curtis, but swore that she would never replace him with her biological dad.

But that is just what she has done, for all intents and purposes. We haven't seen poor, devastated Taggert since sometime in 2023, and Trina acts like Curtis is the man who raised her and that Portia (Brook Kerr) and Curtis have been married for decades, when that is the furthest thing from the truth.

Trina does not even mention Taggert's existence, a man she was so devoted to until Portia's big little secret came out the night that Portia and Curtis married. The pair even spent the first year of their marriage estranged due to Portia's decades-long lie.

Even if Portia and Curtis did raise her and she never knew of a man named Marcus Taggert, the adult Trina being this broken up that her parents are getting a divorce is not normal. It almost reminds us of 30-something Michael's obsession with getting revenge on Sonny because he decided he didn't want to be with Carly anymore.

Portia and Curtis are two adults who just couldn't seem to work things out. Whether it is Curtis' self-righteousness or Portia's lies, it looks like it is time for this couple to split and Trina just has to accept that. Maybe she can even contact the guy she called 'Dad' for the first two decades of his life and see how he's doing.
