This past week, General Hospital took us back in time to 1994, when a little girl named Mariah Maximilia Jones lay in a hospital bed waiting for a heart. Her mother refused to leave her side as she prayed for a miracle. Kristina Wagner brought that mother to life more than 30 years ago and continued bringing her to life this week as she worried for her little girl's heart.

Who can ever forget that moment when Felicia's joy at learning a heart had been found for Maxie turned to complete horror when she learned where that heart had come from? "Not Barbara Jean," Felicia cried.

This week, Felicia was in the middle of an average day at work when her world suddenly changed. As soon as Lucas (Van Hansis) turned around and looked at her, Felicia knew. Wagner threw herself back into fierce Felicia mama mode as her character was brought right back to those weeks so many years ago when she sat vigil by Maxie's (Kirsten Storms) side.

We watched Wagner take Felicia from cheerful to distraught in seconds, but the ever-strong Felicia still held it together until a few moments with Anna (Finola Hughes) that revealed every mother's worst fears.

When Anna sat with her friend to offer comfort, Wagner showed us just how terrified Felicia was that she would lose Maxie. Knowing that Maxie had a heart attack brought all those feelings back from when Maxie was a child. It finally dawned on Felicia that her miracle could be up. Yes, heart transplants can last decades, but Maxie's transplant was decades ago. Perhaps what she had always feared most was about to come true.

"I got that miracle, but what if that miracle had run its course?" she asked.

As Wagner said the words, we could see 1994's Felicia experiencing the same agony, which is something unique to soaps. We take a journey with fictional characters through their lives, often with the same actors telling the story.

Wagner told Felicia and Maxie's story with quiet strength, but also with heart, as she tried to keep it together for Mac and Spinelli when we knew she wanted to fall apart. Through it all, we could only marvel at how Wagner took Felicia through a 30-year journey with just a few short scenes.
