The 2025 relationship between General Hospital's Tracy and her criminal nephew, Jason, is the soap opera gift that keeps on giving this year. Credit can be given to the brilliant writing that has finally brought them together, but it can also be given to the undeniable chemistry between Jane Elliot and Steve Burton.
This week, these two veteran performers were given an unenviable task — playing out the scenes in the aftermath of Monica's desk. They did so with power, professionalism, and raw emotion that dug deep within them so we could feel deep within us, making Elliot and Burton this week's Soap Central picks for GH performers of the week.
Steve Burton and Jane Elliot ripped our hearts out

It was a big week for General Hospital's Jason as he listened to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) vent, found her a place to stay, and then listened to Carly (Laura Wright) vent. By the time he finally made it home to listen to Tracy vent, he was exhausted, but willing to break the news to Monica that Drew (Cameron Mathison) had been shot. We braced ourselves because we knew what was coming when he came back down the famous Quartermaine staircase.
The look on Jason's face told Tracy and us everything we needed to know, but Tracy still needed to hear the words from Jason. With just two lines of dialogue, Burton expressed everything that Jason was feeling. The emotion was both stone cold and deeply warm. Burton understood it had to be that way because of who Jason is, how he feels, and how he has expressed his feelings since the accident that took his memories all those years ago.
Elliot's reaction to learning her sister-in-law was gone was both raw and subtle at the same time. She gasped in horror, before a few moments of denial, and then acceptance took over. But the most gut-wrenching moments came after the paramedics removed Monica's body from her house.
General Hospital's history

The warmth between Burton and Elliot shone through like the sun when Jason and Tracy made it to the couch to decompress and comfort one another. Tracy was relieved that she and Jason were the only two home so they could have these moments of quiet.
During these two heartbreaking scenes, Burton showed us just how far Jason has come over the last three decades. He gave us that perfect combination of the hardened hitman and the young pre-med student whose existence was cut short by a life-changing accident. This Jason wanted to know who he was before and remember his days growing up as Monica's son.
Elliot wisely allowed Burton and Jason to feel their feelings while playing the role of Jason's surrogate mom. As each spoke of their affection for Monica, we didn't know whether they were acting or remembering their friend, Leslie Charleson.
Then came the moment when Tracy naturally wiped a tear from Jason's eyes. The moment was so organic and warm that we are sure it wasn't scripted. Instead, it came from the brilliance of two performers who delivered when the moment called for it.
