On General Hospital, menacing mineral mogul Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and no-nonsense Assistant District Attorney Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) have both been major threats to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) in recent months.
The two actors are married in real life, but their characters have rarely interacted on General Hospital. That changed in a big way during the July 23 episode, when both characters met with Sonny about the disappearance of Sidwell’s son, Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo).
Two of Sonny's biggest General Hospital adversaries are married in real life
On General Hospital, the three characters faced off at the Port Charles Police Department. Turner helped Sidwell as she tried to get information from him about Marco’s disappearance, hoping Sidwell would name Sonny as the person he thought was responsible for his son’s absence. As Turner was trying to convince Sidwell, Marco showed up at the station and reunited with his father. To cover for Sonny, Marco told them a fake story about what happened to him. After Marco and Sidwell left, Turner told Sonny she didn’t believe the story, calling Sonny “corrupt and soulless.”
The tense episode involving the offscreen couple delighted fans of their General Hospital characters, some of whom want one or both of them to bring down the polarizing mob boss for good.
On their Instagram accounts, both actors shared an Instagram Story from the user rabbit_vip, who said, “This epic square off between the ADA, Sidwell and Sonny is fire!” On X, formerly known as Twitter, the user JenniferCo90111 said “I must say Sidwell and ADA Turner are so good at their roles that I can’t see them being married in real life!”
The General Hospital actors, who celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in April, have two children. The family is currently vacationing on the Pacific coast of Mexico, and both actors have regularly been posting pictures and videos of themselves and their children.
Both actors debuted on General Hospital during the past year. Rota is probably best known for his role on 24, playing Morris O’Brian, the husband of leading character Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub). He was on the show for three seasons.
Rota has more than 150 credits and is known for playing memorable villains. He had recurring roles on Jane the Virgin and Scandal, and was a key character in the movie Saw V, part of the horror franchise.
He also appeared in (and served as creative consultant for) the show Little Mosque on the Prairie from 2007 to 2012. He has been playing Sidwell since 2024.
Contractor also starred on 24 in the regular recurring role of Kayla Hassan during the show’s eighth season, but did not work with her husband there.
She has spent a significant portion of her career in Toronto working on Canadian projects. Currently, she is a regular on the Canadian TV show Children Ruin Everything, which has aired for the past four years. The show won Best Comedy Series this summer at the Canadian Screen Awards, which is that country’s equivalent of the Emmys. The show has won nine Canadian Screen Awards, including the 2025 award for Best Ensemble Performance, Comedy, with Contractor sharing in the win.
She had a key role in the movie Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013 and also had recurring roles on Rules of Engagement and Covert Affairs. She was also a regular on the series Ransom, which aired from 2017 to 2019. Rota made some appearances with her on that show. Contractor was in the film Seance: The Summoning, in which she won Best Supporting Actress at WorldFest Houston in 2012.
The General Hospital couple met while both working on the TV series Relic Hunter 25 years ago, but according to Contractor, they didn’t start dating until they had a chance encounter in Toronto years later.

On State of Mind, Benard’s mental health interview series, the General Hospital actress said she met Rota and Rajskub in a bar in Toronto after one of Contractor’s friends recognized Rajskub from 24. Contractor remembered Rota from their previous work together, and the rest was history.
