General Hospital's inexplicable couple swap leaves questions

Sometimes, General Hospital will make choices that leave us scratching our heads, and that's just what this soap has done with the romantic lives of Curtis, Portia, Isaiah, and Jordan, four characters who seem to be switching places for no real reason.

It was clear from the day newcomer Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) landed in the hospital that Jordan (Tanisha Harper) was slated to be his new love interest. As deputy mayor and the former police commissioner, she took an interest in the John Doe, who was brought in after being mowed down by a car shortly after he landed at the Port Charles airport.

Over the ensuing months, Isaiah and Jordan grew closer, had some steamy moments in the sauna, exchanged Christmas gifts, went out on a few dates, and then...she decided to fake break things off with him so she could voluntarily go under cover to bring down Sidwell (Carlo Rota). Huh?

That whole scenario never made any sense, but we thought that Isaiah and Jordan would have a clandestine relationship with an air of danger, knowing Sidwell could catch them at any moment. Instead, Jordan and Isaiah decided it just wasn't working out, so that was that. Um, okay? So, what was the point of the last nine months?

Remember when Curtis (Donnell Turner) ended his marriage to Jordan because she kept a secret from him, hoping that it would help save TJ's (Tajh Bellow) life? He just couldn't handle liars — or at least secrets, in this case.

He didn't waste much time embarking on a romance with Portia (Brook Kerr), a woman he once had an affair with while she lied to her husband, Marcus Taggert (Real Andrews). Well, when Curtis learned she had lied to HIM about Trina's paternity, he refused to go near Portia for the first year or so of their marriage. Apparently, liars are fine, but only if they are not lying to him.

Well, Portia kept another secret and told some more lies, so Curtis is mad again, but guess who seems to be looking pretty good? That's right. Jordan. She is single, and Curtis can't stop turning to her with his man problems.

Meanwhile, we now know that Isaiah has no problem asking his married boss out for a day at the pool — to relieve her stress, of course.

So, um, what the heck is going on here? Why invest all this time in these two couples, only for them to swap mates for no real reason? It's quite clear where General Hospital is going with this, but there is only one woman who will truly lose, and that's Jordan. She may still have feelings for Curtis, but he is a man who has treated her awful in the past while also picking her as his sloppy seconds for the last two years.
