Maurice Benard: Disco godfather - General Hospital's Maurice Benard unleashes sweet dance moves

Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) been going through a lot lately on General Hospital. He’s had to deal with a heart condition and surgery while also trying to find out who firebombed his penthouse, which severely injured his son, Michael (Rory Gibson). He and Jason (Steve Burton), his right-hand man and lethal enforcer, have been putting their heads together to figure a way out of the mafia. In real life, Benard’s been also busy working on his mental health show, State of Mind. But he also takes time to hang out with his family and recently shared a hilarious video showing him cutting loose.

Dance negates pain

General Hospital’s Maurice Benard posted a video on Instagram that was set to the tune of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody. In it, he’s furiously strutting his funky stuff, dancing around with granddaughter TT. His son Josh, who played Adam on GH, was also in the video, also getting jiggy with it. Benard captioned it, “Something @eckharttolle said ‘Pain loves pain - Pain despises Joy.’ Dancing brings joy to my life. Dance a day keeps the pain away!!! TT @jjbenard.” His reference was to New York Times bestselling author of The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle, whose Instagram page is chock full of uplifting sayings and sentiments.

Co-star Tanisha Harper (Jordan) shared everyone’s initial reaction to the video, writing, “Aweeeee.” @generalhospitalblog admitted to envying TT with the response, “Oh my, Titi’s outfit!!! Do they make it in my size?! Haha, I love it! She’s a doll.” @bleggio enjoyed the dancing very much and shared the praise: “I love watching this Grandpa Maurice, & Uncle Josh with their Cutie granddaughter, & niece, you are all voguing.”

Fun family dancing is good

@silvazsadoorian tossed out a great idea, responding, “She’s got some great moves! I see future dancers. And you, Maurice, for DWTS.” That acronym, of course, stands for the popular reality show Dancing With the Stars. Benard couldn’t help but reply to that with several crying-laughing emojis. Overall, the fans truly enjoyed the video, with @karen.macintyre writing, “Family that stays together dances together.”

Another fan, @bevsserenityspace, shared quite a few smiling faces with hearts for eyes emojis and wrote, “Uuuuu Gotz Moves Sonnyyyyyy!!!...Hahhaaahaha.” And @lionessdi’s response was representative of the collective consensus, replying, “TT is adorable, dancing queen. Pure joy for Grandpa and all your family and friends! Thanks for sharing.”
