On General Hospital, Congressman Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), aka Congressman Cutthroat, is headed for disaster. He’s made an enemy of nearly all the citizens of Port Charles by pushing forth his own selfish agenda. He’s been an extremely busy villain in the making, and off-screen, Mathison has been just as busy, balancing his acting duties with hosting opportunities and personal projects. Recently, he returned to a familiar place on Good Morning America, where he rejoined the team as a guest host on GMA3. He shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse with fans on social media, illustrating just how much fun he’s having in the TV world.
Keeping the energy high
On Instagram, General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison posted a video with the caption, "Once GMA, always GMA. From 2008–2015, I was part of the family as a special correspondent…and last month I was back for a couple of days, guest-hosting on GMA3 with the best in the business. Always grateful to be with this incredible team!" In July, he was joined on the talk show by actor Rob Lowe and his son, John Owen Lowe, and they discussed Mathison’s game show, Beat the Bridge. Other celebrities who were on while Mathison was pinch-hitting were Chef Roy Choi, ABC e-commerce editor Tory Johnson, and musician Jordan Fisher, among others.
His video comprised various clips of the General Hospital star on GMA3 that began with a behind-the-scenes clip of him saying, “You're stuck with me today.” A clip from another Instagram video of his was squeezed in, where he introduced his new foster dog, Hunter. On the show, he mentioned his pooch, stating, “I don't even know if I'm allowed to have a dog in the building…but he's a sweet boy.” At a later point, he’s playing basketball with some of the female hosts, and the overall mood created by the montage was one of deep enthusiasm.
Fans Fear the Worst

General Hospital fans were worried that Drew is going to be killed off the soap, with @happywalkhappydog writing, “You’re Leaving GH?! Drew Evokes STRONG Emotions In Everyone!” But Mathison responded to that with, “Nooooooo,” leaving fans wondering if Drew may not necessarily be killed off but just injured like EJ on Days of Our Lives. @thegreekgoddess5678 was hopeful with their post that stated, “@cameronmathison I'm hoping your character Drew was kidnapped or switched in prison and you'll come back as the Drew we all knew and loved! And this bad guy Drew/cult leader will kick the bucket or go to jail... giggle.”
@sandrafrates leaned into Mathison’s GMA3 appearances, responding, “I love you on GMA…I mean, you're awesome on GH, but I think you could be a wonderful addition to GMA !!!” As the conversation about whether or not Drew would be killed off rolled on, the fans sent their love to Mathison. And fan, @annepeterson44, gushed, “You were AWESOME on GMA.” (Find out how Mathison proved nature was the best therapy.)
General Hospital can be seen weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
