Things aren’t looking too good for Drew (Cameron Mathison) on General Hospital. While he seems very confident that he’ll achieve all his goals, he’s made an enemy of nearly everyone in Port Charles because of his devious acts. Although a ‘Who Shot Drew?’ storyline could be in his future, Mathison is not worried and is continuing to enjoy his life, surviving after the L.A. wildfires destroyed his home and everything he owned. But his latest social media post is a testament to his tenacity as he rebuilds what he lost.

One Night, Big Reset

On Instagram, General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison shared a video of himself camping, with the narration, “Do you ever feel like you just want to get out of town, get into nature a little bit? Well, so did I last weekend, just for one night, just left on Saturday. Found a spot called Crystal Lake up in Angeles National Forest. I brought Hunter the rescue Doby with me, made a fire, roasted some marshmallows, had a little man and dog love, and then he slept in while I got up and I had my coffee in the morning. And just being out in nature, literally probably less than 24 hours, but man, so many benefits, so worth it.”

Mathison captioned it, “Slowly starting to replace my camping gear after losing it all and I wanted to put it to the test 🏕️. 1.5 hours from the heart of Los Angeles is Crystal Lake campground in Angeles National Forest (there are probably even closer ones). Hunter the rescue Dobie kept me company:)”

The health perks of the great outdoors

The General Hospital star then wrote about the “Benefits of UNPLUGGING and being in nature,” which includes a reduction of stress and anxiety, an improved mood, mental clarity, a sense of mindfulness and presence, it lowers your blood pressure and heart rate, helps increase your immune system, and overall gives people better sleep, which he described thusly: “Natural light exposure helps regulate circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.” Ultimately, being out in nature has numerous health benefits by helping people truly relax. (Find out what Mathison said about a 7-day fast, which has similar benefits as he described here.)

Former General Hospital actress Rebecca Budig commented, “I love this so much.” Many of his fans had the same thought as @princessofprint responded, “Hunter is such a good dog. Y’all were meant to find each other at this time.” @courtneyholland35 picked up on a great film series tie-in to what Mathison had revealed, writing, “Ok, Jason Vorhees.” Right away, Mathison got the connection and replied to the fan, “@courtneyholland35 hahahahahah Crystal Lake lol.” Camp Crystal Lake, of course, is the setting for most of the Friday the 13th films.

And @criscamarotto responded with another benefit of being in nature alone, writing, “Learning to enjoy our own company is one of the purest forms of self-love. No awkward silence, no pressure, just peace, freedom, and the joy of being with you.”

General Hospital can be seen weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
