Chris McKenna has been enjoying his time as General Hospital’s WSB station chief Jack Brennan. Whether it turns out that he’s actually the director of the Bureau remains to be seen, but so far, he’s done a good job of taking over for Charles Mesure in the role. But being in the spotlight, as many celebrities know, opens one up to unwarranted criticism. McKenna recently took to social media to address his detractors and defend others who’ve been besmirched online.
Be nice
McKenna took some time to write on X, formerly Twitter, “Guys, say whatever you like. But there’s no need to @ me with complaints about my friends, cast mates, bosses, and colleagues. @ ing us is a privilege easily revoked. And if you’re worried there’s not enough negativity on the internet you can take the day off. You’re covered. Be nice.❤️.”
The General Hospital star's followers were glad to hear him speak out, with @JaimeDonnieGirl writing, “Well said Chris. I totally agree.” @laurie0510 chimed in with, “Oh my goodness. People need to lighten up. Thank you for your hard work and talking with your fans. It is appreciated. 🩷.” And General Hospital fan @DLNY911 left a kind response with, “I get what you are saying. That you took a moment of calm instead of cancelling people with blocking is good of you and I appreciate it. I did not see anything about your posts catching flack, but I saw them, gave a like, may have left word. I hope people accept your boundary!”
A fascinating melange of delusions
General Hospital’s McKenna replied with the surprising yet hilarious, “Some lunatic posted on all my insta that I was an ‘old ugly grandpa!!!!’ and ‘how dare you come between Joss and Carly!!!!!’ A fascinating melange of delusions.” @sassydrew liked his ‘melange’ phrase, with the actor responding that it was funny that the detractor insulted his real-life looks but was mad at his supposed fictional transgression.
Follower @thesonster apologized for other fans by commenting, “I think you’re doing a great job as Jack! Sorry for any hate the actors get! Keep up the great work on GH! 👏.” @larrywitness shared what was on many fans’ minds, posting, “Props to @chris_mckenna for speaking out on negative attacks. #gh fans for most part simply are passionate about their show. Still many actors face this daily. May we all remember these are actors not the characters they portray. Big props to Chris.”
And @thereal7410 summed up the collective fan responses with the appropo, “Soap fans can sometimes be a little nutty 😳.”
