Stephen A. Smith’s Brick has been keeping a close eye on Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) inner circle lately on General Hospital. The coolest of the cool, he swaggered into Sonny’s office and told him that he had made it look like it was Drew who bribed the judge. He often seems otherworldly as he moves silently through Port Charles, helping to protect Sonny and his family. Speaking of family, Smith took a break to open up about what exactly keeps him grounded in life.

Finding the light again

On Instagram, General Hospital’s Stephen A. Smith wrote simply, “Blessed. ❤️.” There was a video clip attached that seems to have been recorded during a Forbes discussion panel. In it, he shared a moving reflection: “I never, ever, ever looked at life after I lost my mother and thought that I could be happy. And it's just amazing, like, you know, when my daughter Samantha FaceTimes me and it's like, she's like, Dad, you know, and she's driving me crazy, but…I don't care cause it's her."

He continued to offer insight into his life with: “Or my Nyla is like, ‘Daddy!’ you know, when she hears my voice, and she responds that way, it paralyzes me. It stops me in my tracks, and in that moment, for those few seconds, nothing matters. Nothing.” He then gushed about what his daughters do for him, stating, “And if I did something to make them smile or to make them happy, those are my roses because if you didn't have anything to offer, chances are they wouldn't smile as much and they wouldn't be as happy and then you'd really be miserable and I'm blessed to not have that problem.”

Fans react loudly

The post sparked a massive wave of responses — some supportive, some critical, and many highly personal. @johnbluecar60 wrote, “I have been listening to Stephen A. for almost two decades…I’m so proud of this brother! Steve has a good heart…” @charlesbladesbarber shared, “It’s always an honor, brother, cutting your hair when you stop in Oakland, CA. God bless you and your family, my friend.”

General Hospital fan, @dinofareal wrote, “Keep calling it like it is, bro! There are many of us out here supporting you, even though we may not agree with everything you say or your position on some things...for the most part, you [are] on point.” @iopennewdoors added, “So proud of you, Stephen A! Keep going and working hard!!”

And one General Hospital fan appreciated his words of family, writing, “Daddy A Smith! Blessing to hear the father figure talk.”
