General Hospital’s Jason Morgan might be the guy everyone calls when trouble hits Port Charles, but even he needs caffeine to function. Jason’s been trying to get Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) to let him in again—to trust him, to lean on him—and there’s something fitting about the real-life man behind the stoic enforcer reminding fans that even the toughest guys crave a little comfort. Steve Burton traded the mob for a mocha this week, posting a playful video that took the coffee wars to a whole new level.

The great coffee divide

General Hospital’s Steve Burton captioned his Instagram video: “You know I LOVE coffee. When we are on the road, we always try to find local coffee spots, but you know, when we can’t, these two work also. Some swear by Dunkin’, others can’t function without Starbucks… where do you stand in the great coffee divide? Comment below!”

In the clip, the actor stared into the camera and set the scene. “All right, this is the battle…” he says, gesturing toward a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts. “This one…” He pivots the opposite way, pointing at a Starbucks across the street, continuing, “…or that one?” It’s the kind of small, funny moment fans have come to expect from Burton—laid back, and full of fun.

Co-star Bradford Anderson, who plays Jason’s bestie, Spinelli, commented, “Can you get me a turkey bacon sandwich over there and I’ll get coffee at Dunks?? Thanks.” Burton responded with a simple, “Yes.” The General Hospital star’s new wife, Michelle Lundstrom, chimed in with, “Lilah said duh Starbucks!!!!” Then she added, “Dunkin was good in the 90s but just for a toasted blueberry muffin with buttaaah.” Burton responded to her with, “Dude, you haven’t paid for Starbucks since ‘Nam.”

General Hospital fans weigh in

As expected, the General Hospital fans turned out in droves—and so did their opinions. @soapoperanewsss kept it simple: “Dunkin.” @jrossphoto disagreed, writing, “Not even a competition bro! Dunkin taste like [poop emoji].” Meanwhile, @maureen_luby took her stand with, “Dunkin!!” and @mommalisa15 threw her loyalty the other way: “Definitely Starbucks!!!”

Some added a personal touch, like @kathy.vincent, who wrote, “I’m a 72-year-old woman, and when I was 15, Dunkin’ was my first job, and I loved it. Dunkin’ is still for me.” Others like @msoboda chimed in with nuance: “I love me some Starbucks, but the prices make my wallet cry. Dunkin’ has good coffee at a good price.”

There were purists, too. @bettywhitethepup declared, “Neither. Make your own version, and it’s the best.” And @grneyed_mama offered a little real-world advice for the GH star: “My choice for coffee is Dunkin’. I agree with Bradford on the sammich tho! But, that being said, Steve, the bottom line is Happy Wife, Happy Life!”

General Hospital can be seen weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
