We know that Erika Slezak is coming to General Hospital later this week, but what remains unclear is if there will be an on-screen reunion between the One Life to Live legend and her former TV son, Chris McKenna (ex-Joey), who now plays GH's Jack Brennan. Off-screen, however, that reunion has happened!
Paging a General Hospital reunion
"Just indescribable having Erika [ex-Viki, OLTL] here," McKenna posted about having his former TV mother, who has joined him at GH. The actor's reunion with Slezak was a true family affair. He was joined at the set with his real-life mother, his wife, Lovisa McKenna, and their son, Spencer.
"To be meeting my family after so many decades apart is incredible," McKenna added. "My two moms and the mother of my son together. So grateful. #OLTL #GH."
On OLTL, McKenna played Joey, named after his late father, Joe Riley (Lee Patterson), who died before Joey was born, from 1990-1993. He was on OLTL during the storyline in which his pal Billy Douglas (Ryan Phillippe) came out. Joey was adopted by his stepdad, Clint (Clint Richie), and became Joey Buchanan.
Slezak's arrival at GH has been highly anticipated since it was announced in June. Fan speculation ranged from her being a recast Monica (Leslie Charleson), a person related to Monica (who was an orphan...hmmm), Viki Buchanan, or someone else!
Viewers can tune in to General Hospital this week to find out who she'll be playing and whether or not Slezak's mystery character will be interacting with Jack Brennan.
From Llanview to Port Charles
After McKenna left OLTL in 1993, he took a few years off from appearing on TV and in films, but returned to the screen with a role in 1997's In & Out. His other post-OLTL credits include That '70s Show, Touched By an Angel, The Practice, The District, and Private Practice.
In 2012, McKenna was cast as a guest star in an episode of Castle, which starred Nathan Fillion (The Rookie), who succeeded him as Joey on OLTL. McKenna returned to daytime in 2014 when he was cast as Det. Mark Harding on The Young and the Restless.
Mark was charming, and his banter with Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart), who consulted with the Genoa City Police Department, became a fan favorite. Alas, Mark turned out to be a bad egg (and by bad egg, we mean a killer). Earlier this year, the actor landed on General Hospital as Jack Brennan.
