With Erika Slezak set to appear on General Hospital, rumors have been circulating that she might play the sister of Monica (Leslie Charleson). The One Life to Live alum confirmed her appearance on social media, and fans have been abuzz. They’re also talking about stars who have been on the show since the late 1970s, and Kin Shriner (Scotty) has been one of them. He recently celebrated his first appearance on the soap with a fun throwback.
He sparked GH nostalgia
With a few bars of the original General Hospital theme on a loop, Kin Shriner shared a video still image on Instagram of what appears to be the cover of a vintage 1970s magazine, probably something like Tiger Beat or Tiger Beat Star. He captioned it, “Grown up Scotty Baldwin turned up today August 2 1977. Loved every minute of it!!!” Child star Johnny Whitaker originated the role in 1965, and it was subsequently played by other kids until 1977 when Shriner took over and has played it ever since. However, he’s been noticeably absent from the show for almost a year, but the actor has kept updating the fans on his wacky life.
@wnhastings praised Shriner with, “Thank you for your work on GH. The show took off right after Scotty’s arrival.” The fans begged him to return as @kathyferrell742022 echoed what many were writing, with, “We want Scotty back. Stopped watching a while back. Too many good one gone off of the show. Plus, the ones who are veterans don't have much of a storyline. Scotty needed a new love interest.”
From live TV to lifetime fans

Shriner had a similar post on X, formerly Twitter, in which he shared a shot of the inside of a magazine, probably the same one with his Instagram cover. He wrote, “Today, August 2, I got my break in Hollywood, and that feeling of live TV that does last a lifetime!! Thanks, @GeneralHospital fans!!” The article introduced him as ‘Scotty Baldwin’ of General Hospital, and gave out the following stats:
NAME: Kin Herbert Shriner
BIRTHDATE: December 6
BIRTHPLACE: New York City
HEIGHT: 5'11"
WEIGHT: 150 lbs.
EYES: Blue
HAIR: Blonde
MARITAL STATUS: Very single.
FAMILY: “I have a twin brother, but he doesn’t look anything like me. Will. I have a sister who’s older—Indy.”
Some of the excerpts from the magazine included his statements that when it comes to women, “I look for personality," but the General Hospital star stated he wouldn’t be ready for marriage until he was 30, and some of his hobbies included motorcycle riding and basketball, stating, “I have a lot of hobbies.” Regarding his future plans, he boldly stated, “I’d like to do films—along with everything else! I think everyone in daytime TV wants to move into features. I’ve driven myself more toward film. I wouldn’t mind doing some stage, but I’d rather do a good film than a Broadway play.”
And his reason for acting was that he’d always wanted to be an actor since childhood, hilariously noting, “I set the backyard on fire. I was pretending I was a Forest Ranger who put the fire out. I tried to act out of control!” @whitneydevlin commented, “Thank you for taking us along your trip on Memory Lane,” while @nwdugan wrote, “Crazy how soaps were live back then! Amazing! You created a fun character with your sense of humor. I miss seeing Scott on screen.”
General Hospital can be seen weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
