Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza) life was upended on General Hospital when he overheard Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Lois (Rena Sofer) talking about his true parents. He had no idea that Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) gave him up for adoption when he was born, and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) was his father. While he’s pushed most everyone away, he at least sat down with Lulu and heard why and how she uncovered the fact that he had been secretly put up for adoption. Mazza stepped forward and discussed the impact that the various lies have had on Gio.
He admires Havins

General Hospital’s Giovanni Mazza was interviewed by Soap Opera Digest and noted that Gio wants the truth and can rely on Emma (Braedyn Bruner), Lulu, and Sonny (Maurice Benard) to be honest with him. “Lulu is the reason that he even knows who he is, knows who his parents are,” he remarked, adding, “and he’s appreciative that she did that.” Mazza thinks that although Gio was a much happier person before the reveal, his character wouldn’t want to be kept in the dark his whole life.
Because Lulu didn’t stop until she unearthed the truth about Dante and BLQ’s teen fling that produced a child, Mazza feels that Gio looks at her as “an ally.” His admiration for Havins goes deep, as he explained that he loves how she interacts with her own family and wants to emulate that. “She’s sort of like the person that I want to be when I’m older,” he remarked. The young actor also praised Havins’ acting, enthusiastically stating that he loves working with her. (Find out how fans really feel about a Gio and Emma pairing.)
He’s got a chosen family

Mazza also added a new dimension to Gio’s family worldview. Gio felt that his whole life was a lie, and the Palmieris were not really his family. But, families aren’t just bonded by blood, but they can be people that we choose, and that’s exactly what Mazza envisions Gio is doing now. He stated that Gio wants “to create a new, chosen family. A support system, like an inner circle that he can rely on, and who can rely on him.” He added that Lulu is fast becoming part of that chosen family.
The General Hospital star noted that Gio’s relationship with Sonny didn’t change all that much after the reveal. He had always wondered why Sonny paid for his education over the years, and wondered if Sonny was in on the secret. Thankfully, his grandfather had no idea. “Obviously, something happened, but it’s not like anything changed with their relationship, regardless of what happened,” he stated.
His relationship with his newfound brother, Rocco (Finn Carr), is a little trickier because they’ve been living together at the Quartermaine mansion without realizing their connection. He remarked, “But Rocco is so innocent and reminds Gio so much of himself that I think they’ll create a really nice bond over time.” (Here’s why Gio and Tracy (Jane Elliot) are the pair we never knew we needed.)
