Why Tracy and Gio are the General Hospital pair we never knew we needed

General Hospital's Jane Elliot has been stealing the show all year. Someone at GH wisely decided to make Tracy Quartermaine the Port Charles matriarch, and she has been delivering in spades. Couple that with the easy chemistry she shares with Giovanni Mazza, who plays Tracy's newfound great-grandson, and we have some solid gold on our hands.

General Hospital's perfect new pair

Fans have been enjoying Tracy and Gio's interactions for months. Ever since the time he first stood up to her in the Q living room, Tracy has developed an affection for the young house guest she now knows is family. In fact, months ago, she practically adopted him when she offered to pay for his education in lieu of Gio accepting Sonny's ill-gotten gains.

The scenes in which Tracy learned that Gio was Brook Lynn's son and another person to carry on her parents' legacy were everything we needed. Tracy's sheer shock and quiet jubilation were mesmerizing while Gio's anguish and tears broke our hearts.

Fans can't wait to see more

After those beautiful scenes aired, General Hospital fans took to social media, in awe of what they saw. Last week, Soap Central explained why we felt Tracy needed to be at the ball to hear Gio's meltdown in real time, but her coming home after a few hours at the PCPD to get the news from Gio himself worked wonderfully.

"Tracy already acting like she BEEN Gio's Big Momma!" @Nk3play2 wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 'She told him to stay! He stayed! She told him to explain! He explained! He has respect and reverence for her already! When she put her hand on his face!"

@hellorobhill couldn't get enough fo what he saw, saying, "Watching Tracy and Gio… I lost it! Boy I was in tears!"

"Jane Elliott is a queen," tweeted @GinaBeana365 about the performances. "I absolutely love how she's playing Tracy's reaction. I think GM is rising to the occasion with Gio's pain/reaction."

Tracy, Gio, Brook Lynn, and Lois have made some skeptical audience members fans of this storyline, as they also enjoy Tracy's humor.

"I loved the way that Tracy came walking in and then threw her shoes lmao,"@GHGeneralTruth wrote. "It’s nice to have comedy mixed in with the serious moments. I wasn’t a fan of the Gio story, that’s no secret. The fallout has been amazing — from everyone!"

@JBernardJones was completely blown away by the May 27th episode.

"The Tracy/Gio scenes....(and Emma)...my God!" he wrote. "I genuinely broke down in tears. Elliott! Mazza! Bruner! Zamprogna! Setton! Sofer! Havins-Beuning! Kelly! Stunning! Stunning!"
