In 2023, a viral clip showed Cardi B wearing a bright orange dress and throwing a microphone at a concert attendee from across the stage. The attendee had previously splashed a bottle of water on Cardi while she was performing.

In the clip, Cardi is in the middle of performing her hit track Bodak Yellow when she is suddenly hit with water that an audience member throws from her cup. The latter didn’t take too kindly to being doused with water and retaliated by throwing the microphone.

TMZ reported on July 23, 2025, that the water splasher is suing the Money rapper for assault. The unnamed plaintiff alleged in her court documents that Cardi B had instructed the crowd to pour water on her due to the heatwave in Las Vegas at the time.

Jane Doe further alleged that others threw water on Cardi B without any incident, but when she did as instructed, the rapper threw the microphone at her.

Cardi B was cleared by police in 2023 after microphone incident

When the incident happened in 2023, the rapper was cleared and released from all charges. The concertgoer reported to the authorities, and police listed Cardi as a suspected batterer.

After the investigation, Police revealed that no crime had occurred and that the case was never sent to the district attorney. Her legal team comprising David Chesnoff, Drew Findling and Richard Schofield, told TMZ in 2023 that the Las Vegas police had investigated the incident and would not charge Cardi with any crime.

Their statement read:

"This afternoon, we were notified by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. that as a result of their investigation, there will be NO charges against Cardi."

They added:

"On behalf of Cardi, we appreciate the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept's diligent and prompt resolution of this matter."

The New York native had previously thrown her mike at another function. In a viral clip, the Grammy-winning rapper, who was performing at Drai’s Beachclub, allegedly became irritated that the DJ was cutting off her songs prematurely and shouted out her name before throwing her microphone in the direction of the DJ.

According to The Daily Mail UK, Cierra N. Norris the attorney who is representing the concertgoer will hold a press conference on July 24, 2025, to address the issue.

Cardi B, at the time of writing, hasn’t responded officially to the claims.
