Drake has taken shots at LeBron James in his headlining act at the Wireless Festival on July 12, 2025. During the former’s performance of the hit track Nonstop, he noticeably changed the lyrics where he praised the NBA superstar to another saying:

"How I go from six to 23 but not LeBron, man."

The original lyrics read:

"How I go from six to 23 like I'm LeBron?"

Fans also noticed that the Canadian rapper had covered up a previous tattoo that featured LeBron James’ St Vincent/ St Mary’s jersey with the number 23. The tattoo, which covered the outside of Drake’s arm, was replaced with another NBA player, Gilgeous-Alexander’s number 2, and “Thunder” above it.

What happened between Drake and LeBron James?

While Drake and LeBron held a close friendship for more than a decade, it seems that the public beef between the Canadian rapper and Kendrick Lamar has severed his relationship with James.

Drake and James’ friendship goes as far back as 2009 when the athlete supported the rapper at his So Far Gone mixtape release party. The rapper acknowledged James’ actions in a since-deleted Instagram post:

“A decade ago, you came to my release party at 6 Degrees and made me the biggest artist in the city off your presence alone.”

In a May 2011 Yahoo! Sports interview, LeBron James described Drake as a “real family,” stating:

"What we have is real family. It’s not just because we are successful at what we do. We really care about one another on a day-to-day basis. Anytime you get a friend that can come and support you in what you do, I really respect that.”

In Drake’s What Did I Miss single, released on July 5, 2025, the rapper seemingly calls out James for appearing at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out concert in 2024 with lyrics, “I saw bro went to Pop Out with them.”

Drake also seemingly referred to James’ appearance in Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us music video in his January 2025 song Fighting Irish Freestyle:

"The world fell in love with the gimmicks, even my brothers got tickets."

LeBron James hasn't addressed his strained relationship with Drake.
