Vatican City saw a now-viral moment this weekend when Karol G and Andrea Bocelli shared the stage at St. Peter's Square. The performance took place during Grace for the World, for which an estimated 70,000 people were in attendance. Global fans also tuned in worldwide through live broadcasts. People reacted to the duo's performance, with one saying:
"That is an epic collab between genres and generations. Vatican City just got a musical blessing. 🎶"
The concert was co-directed by Andrea Bocelli and Pharrell Williams. It marked the conclusion of the third World Meeting on Human Fraternity. It was also related to the Catholic Jubilee Holy Year. The event celebrated the 2,025th anniversary of the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
Alongside Andrea Bocelli and Karol G, the lineup also featured John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Pharrell, Jelly Roll, Teddy Swims, BamBam, Clipse, and Angélique Kidjo. They were supported by the gospel choir Voices of Fire, the Diocese of Rome's choir, and an orchestra.
Netizens' reactions to Karol G and Andrea Bocelli's performance at Vatican City's first-ever concert
Pop Crave took to its official X (formerly Twitter) to share that,
"KAROL G & Andrea Bocelli performing "Vivo Por Ella" tonight at first-ever concert in Vatican City, 'Grace for the World.'"
Fans were notably quick to weigh in on the comment section of the X post as they expressed their thoughts. Below are some of their reactions:
"Karol G & Andrea Bocelli singing in Vatican City is proof: reggaeton made it further than the Roman Empire.", stated an X user.
"Now that's a duet I never knew I needed! Bet the Vatican's never had such a lively night, hope they have stocked up on the biscuits for the after-party!", noted another.
"Unpopular opinion: this was not a great duet. Their voices are too different. His rich, deep and sultry. Hers high and pitchy. Separately they are obviously great singers, but together their voices were not complimentary of one another.", opined a third.
Others also chimed in:
"Latin pop meeting operatic legend, all in the heart of the Vatican. History was made tonight, and honestly, it gave chills just watching it happen.", declared a fan.
"That is such a powerful pairing.... Karol G and Andrea Bocelli are going to make magic with that song.", shared another.
"Andrea Bocelli thinking "I trained my whole life for opera and now I am dueting with a reggaetonera in the Pope's backyard"", commented a third.
The evening closed with a drone and light show over St. Peter's Basilica. It was inspired by the Sistine Chapel's artistry.
