Rapper Eminem, once gave pop star Ed Sheeran a glimpse of how he maintains work-life balance. The duo has worked together on a few projects, one of them being the rapper's song River that featured Ed Sheeran. It was the fifth track from Eminem's 2017 studio album, Revival.
In 2021, when the duo met and recorded music together, Eminem shared how he works and balances his time with family. When Sheeran thought they would be working through the night, the Grammy Award winner told him, per Ranker:
''No, bro, I get in 9:00 am and leave at 5:00. I can go out to dinner and hang out with my kids.''
Eminem taught Ed Sheeran about work-life balance
In the music industry, working at irregular hours, travelling, and constantly coming up with creative pieces is a challenge that often blurs the line between personal and professional lives. However, the Lose Yourself singer has figured out a way around.
Back in 2021, Ed Sheeran and Eminem, also known as Marshall Bruce, were to work together, and the former assumed that they would be working through the night recording music.
What happened next was quite surprising. Instead of pulling an all-nighter, Marshall told Sheeran that he began work at 9 am and calls it a day by 5 pm. After that, he has his dinner and spends time with his family.
This exchange between the duo stayed with Sheeran, who took notes and was left inspired by that schedule. When the two worked on the song River, it was a star-studded affair for Sheeran. He expressed how it was for him:
''I sound like such a c**t name-dropping, but I was traveling Australia, and Russell Crowe has a house, this big farm… I get an email from Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager, and he said, "We’re gonna start putting the album together, send any ideas."
He continued:
''So I used the studio at Russell’s house… played the drums on it, and then played the guitar, and then recorded the thing and wrote the chorus and did the piano on it, and then sent it off and then didn’t hear anything back. This was like March 2016.''
Sheeran once revealed on The Howard Stern Show how Marshall indirectly had cured his childhood stutter, as per Image. He said:
''I was going through all sorts of speech therapy and when I was nine, my uncle bought me the Marshall Mathers LP, and he just said to my dad “This guy’s the next Bob Dylan and you’ve gotta let him listen.” My dad didn’t really clock it. He was just like, “Okay Ed’s going to go listen to that.” And by learning that record, rapping back to back to back to back, it cured my stutter.''
Other than River, the two also worked on Remember the Name, a song by Sheeran, featuring the rappers 50 Cent and Eminem. Their third collaboration was Those Kinda Nights, a Marshall Bruce song from his eleventh studio album, Music to Be Murdered By, which featured Ed Sheeran performing the hook.
