Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s charity concert, Back to the Beginning, has become the highest-grossing charity concert of all time. According to Billboard, the concert which was meant to honor Ozzy Osbourne’s final performance on stage raised approximately $190 million charitable donations.

Tom Morello, the musical director of Back to the Beginning, took to his official Instagram account to announce the news. He shared a carousel of photos showcasing memorable moments from the concert. In the first slide, Morello wrote:

“BACK TO THE BEGINNING MORE THAN 190 MILLION DOLLARS WILL BE DONATED TO HOUSES AND HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN.”

The music executive captioned the post with a lengthy write-up describing each photo. He also thanked Ozzy Osbourne for trusting him to handle the event.

“THANK YOU @ozzyosbourne for trusting me to be the Musical Director of the "Back To The Beginning" show. It was over a year of hard work, but heavy metal was the music that made me love music, and it was a labour of love. We raised a ton of money for a great cause, and so many great musicians & bands & fans all over the world paid tribute to the ALL TIME greats.”

The concert has been recognised as the highest-grossing charity concert in history, with its proceeds exceeding those of any previous charity concert since the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh. The 2025 FireAid charity concert raised approximately $100 million, matching the total raised by the 1985 Live Aid concert.

In comparison, the 1985 Farm Aid concert raised $80 million, Hope for Haiti Now brought in $57 million, the 2017 One Love Manchester concert generated $12 million, and the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh collected nearly $250,000.. No other charity concert has garnered that amount of proceeds.

Back to the Beginning took place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham, England. The concert was headlined by English rock band Black Sabbath and its lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne.

It also featured supporting acts from numerous bands, including Mastodon, Rival Sons, Anthrax, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Jack Black, Alice in Chains, Gojira, Pantera, Tool, Slayer, Metallica, and Guns N’ Roses.

In an interview with Billboard, Ozzy Osbourne’s wife, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she was the brains behind the event.

“It was my idea because [Ozzy’s] one regret was he didn’t get the chance to say thank you to his fans before he finished his world tour. We were in the middle of his [2018 No More Tours 2] world tour, his retirement tour; we’d only done about nine months of the tour, and he got sick.”

Ozzy Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in February 2019 and has since then lost his ability to walk. During his performance at the concert, Ozzy had to sit on a gilded throne.

It has been reported that the money raised from the event will be shared equally between Acorns Children's Hospice, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Cure Parkinson's.
