Sabrina Carpenter has opened up about a side of herself that few are familiar with.

The "Espresso" hitmaker is known for her sequined bodysuits, lacy baby-doll outfits, and bold lyrics, some of which have been criticized online.

In a cover story interview with Rolling Stone Magazine for their July-August 2025 cover issue, the multi-hyphenate entertainer revealed that her stage presence is not the complete definition of who she is. Carpenter added that while she loves being energetic, she also enjoys her quiet time:

“But you can’t always be that energetic and happy. So when I get home, I can be the really toned-down, quiet, chill version of myself,"

She added:

“I love entertaining, but I also sometimes love shutting the f*** up and being to myself. Observing, reading, watching, and listening. I spend a lot of time in my own head, which is good and bad.”

“You are obsessed with it. It’s in my show”: Sabrina Carpenter speaks on backlash from her Short N Sweet tour shows

Sabrina Carpenter said that she found the constant criticism of a select few of her songs amusing. The 26-year-old singer argued that critics failed to listen to her other songs and instead chose to dwell on the controversial songs like "Juno" because they are obsessed with them.

"They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular. Clearly, you love sex. You’re obsessed with it. It’s in my show. There’s so many more moments than the ‘Juno’ positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on,"

Carpenter continued:

"If you come to the show, you’ll [also] hear the ballads, you’ll hear the more introspective numbers."

The Grammy-award-winning singer stated that female artists are scrutinized and “picked apart more” in this age and time. Sabrina Carpenter released "ManChild," the lead single from her upcoming album Man’s Best Friend, on June 5, 2025.

The singer described the song as one that made her feel like the main character:

“I’m always thinking about life and my music like it’s a movie,” she says. “Which is such a 25-year-old thing to say. But I really never felt like more of a main character in a coming-of-age movie than when I listened to the song,"

Sabrina Carpenter's upcoming studio album Man’s Best Friend, of which "Manchild is the first single released, is scheduled to drop on August 29, 2025.
