Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have had a history of a tumultuous relationship while sharing a complicated dynamic. The duo had a public falling out in 2018, but their recent posts suggest that the artists might plan to perform together again.
On July 17, 2025, each made separate posts on their respective X pages, which have caused fans to resume clamouring for the reunion of the Fleetwood Mac group: Nicks and Buckingham, members of the posted song lyrics on their X pages on Thursday morning.
Stevie Nicks posted on her X account, the beginning of a line from "Frozen Love," a track in her 1973 album with Buckingham titled Buckingham Nicks. The song was recorded before the duo joined Fleetwood Mac:
“And if you go forward…”
Buckingham completed the ending part of the lyrics writing:
"I’ll meet you there.”
Mick Fleetwood, the third member of the iconic quartet, also referred to Frozen Love in an Instagram video posted on July 16, 2025. He was seen in the Instagram video listening to the song whilst saying:
"The marriage of Stevie and Lindsey, the marriage of coming into Fleetwood Mac when they did — It’s all in the song… It’s in the music that played on for so many years. It’s magic then, magic now. What a thrill.”
Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's relationship explored as the duo stir fan reactions
The rock legends reportedly met as seniors in high school in the late 1960s. Stevie Nicks invited Lindsey to be the lead singer of his rock band, Fritz, as the other members had gone off to college.
She agreed and performed alongside Buckingham at the time. Later, Fritz disbanded in the early 70s, and the duo became a folk-rock group, Buckingham Nicks. On New Year’s Eve 1974, after struggling to sell some of their music, the duo joined Fleetwood Mac as a package deal.
Buckingham and Nicks broke up as the newly reshuffled group worked on their 1977 album Rumours. The duo’s very public love affair was volatile, often ending in breakups and makeups. Their storied history resulted in breakup anthems like "Silver Springs."
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stevie Nicks expressed why her relationship with Buckingham was a special one:
“In Lindsey’s mind, all the other women who came after me were all going after rich rock-and-roll star Lindsey. Nobody was looking into the heart I had looked into. Nobody was seeing the guy before he was famous. We knew each other before. That’s what makes us unique to each other.”
The duo continued on and off in Fleetwood Mac before what seemed like a final breakup in early 2018. Buckingham asked for time away from the group to continue his solo work, a decision that Nicks strongly opposed.
After a public falling out, he was fired from Fleetwood Mac. He sued and was settled in late 2018. Although Buckingham has been focused on a solo career, he has expressed interest in rejoining his former group.
