The Jonas Brothers kicked off their 20th anniversary tour, and their parents are cheering them on. Kevin Jonas Sr. and Denise Jonas raised the musical group comprising Kevin, Joe, and Nick.
The brothers had a solid support system in their early days; however, their father, Kevin Jonas Sr., eventually lost his position as a pastor at their New Jersey church. The days following were filled with financial and emotional troubles.
Luckily, all that is behind them now. The Jonas Brothers celebrate two decades of an impressive musical career while their parents run a Southern comfort food restaurant. Kevin Jonas Sr married Denise Jonas in August 1987. They were just 18 at the time.

After getting married at such a young age, in 1990, Kevin Sr. wrote and recorded Christian music while also teaching songwriting at the Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas. Denise worked at the same institution in the school registrar’s office. When Nick was born, the family moved to New Jersey, where Kevin Sr. began working as a senior pastor at a local church.
Kevin Sr. enjoys performing occasionally and even sang Elton John’s ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ during Nick Jonas’ wedding to Priyanka Chopra in December 2018. Denise joined her husband on stage, providing sign language interpretation for the performance.
In October 2023, Kevin Sr. put up a show during his son’s concert in Nashville, singing Desperado by The Eagles. Kevin Sr. also has a podcast titled Legendary Moments, where he invites some of the entertainment industry’s finest and interviews them.
After Kevin Sr. was relieved of his pastoral duties, the family moved into a two-bedroom home, and the brothers began writing music there. Kevin Sr. was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer in 2017.
Fortunately for him, the tumor was discovered early and treated. In an interview with People, Denise expressed that finding out about her husband’s condition in the beginning was not something she’d wish anyone to go through.
In 2016, they opened Nellie’s Southern Kitchen in North Carolina, named after Kevin Sr.’s grandmother. They serve okra, shrimp, and grits.
