Rachel Platten is living up to her anthem — and this time, she’s making sure it’s truly her own.
On August 25, the singer-songwriter revealed on Instagram that she has re-recorded several of her most well-known tracks to celebrate the upcoming 10th anniversary of Fight Song. The updated oeuvre will be released as part of a new album she’s calling Rachel’s Versions.
“As we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of ‘Fight Song,’ I’ve gone back to some of my originals, not to change them, but to reclaim them."
Her post included the cover of the forthcoming album, alongside an explanation of what drove her decision.
“This is about more than just new versions of old songs; the new Rachel’s Versions are infused with the voice I have now, the wisdom I’ve gained, and the undeniable pride of owning my own masters.”
In her lengthy post, Rachel Platten openly credited Taylor Swift — who famously re-recorded her early albums after losing ownership of her masters — as an influence on the project. Rachel Platten wrote:
“I’m grateful to @TaylorSwift for bringing this conversation to light and empowering artists to take back control over their work, their stories, and their futures."
Taylor Swift, now 35, has spent years reclaiming her catalog through her Taylor’s Version re-releases. The effort followed Scooter Braun’s acquisition of her masters in 2019 and Swift’s eventual purchase of them back through Shamrock Capital.
In an open letter, The Life of a Showgirl star described finally regaining ownership as her "greatest dream come true," adding:
“I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made... now belongs... to me. And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life’s work."
"Fully, completely, and unapologetically mine": Rachel Platten to release re-recorded tracks in late September
For Rachel Platten, her own re-recordings will include Fight Song, Stand By You, and other highlights from her 2016 album Wildfire. She also teased “some live songs” and even “a surprise from the vault.”
The Better Place hitmaker reunited with Jon Levine, the producer of her original record, to bring the new versions to life.
“I had no idea when I wrote these songs in moments of vulnerability that they would go on to change my life. For a decade, they’ve lived out in the world, carrying their own weight. They’ve been parts of your moments of strength, doubt, and connection.”
Racherl Platten concluded her announcement with a note of gratitude to listeners who have stood by her over the years.
“Thank you to all of you, who have stood by me over these years. I can’t wait for you to hear them again — this time, fully, completely, and unapologetically mine.”
Fight Song (Rachel’s Version) will be released on September 26, ushering in a new era of ownership and artistry for Rachel Platten.
