Lady Gaga recently caused a stir amongst fans by serving an unadorned look at the MAYHEM Ball Tour. The North American leg of the tour finally kicked off last week, and Gaga celebrated the occasion by going make-up free at the Las Vegas concert.
Lady Gaga, who is known for her love of the ornate, initially made her way onto the stage dressed in flashy clothing before she transformed into a toned-down version of herself. The fancy costume quickly made way for a more muted look (black bodysuit, leather trench coat, baseball cap, and sunglasses) midway through her performance of "How Bad Do U Want Me".
She then went on to perform the latter half of the song energetically while sporting her makeup-free look. Her carefully choreographed performance drew the attention of many fans during the event, and even the fans watching online. The social media fans have welcomed the news with great enthusiasm and have praised Gaga for serving looks during the tour.
It is also worth noting that while the makeup removal was surprising in a high-glam tour context, it was not entirely unprecedented for Lady Gaga. She also went with this look at her 2023 Oscars performance and her movie A Star Is Born. Gaga also occasionally gives fans snippets of her glam-free look on Instagram, for which she has been praised as well.
Gaga has previously described the barefaced look as an extension of herself, and not something that is to be taken as a token of authenticity.
Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball Tour
After months of anticipation, Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball Tour officially kicked off last week. The tour has been announced to celebrate Gaga's connection to her earlier career, and also acts as a promotional tour for her recent album "Mayhem". Gaga shared her excitement about the tour through a statement on social media, in which she said:
"I wasn’t planning to tour this year after my shows in Singapore but the incredible response to the new album inspired me to keep things going. We chose arenas this time to give me the opportunity to control the details of the show in a way you simply can’t in stadiums — and honestly, I can’t wait. This show is designed to be the kind of theatrical and electrifying experience that brings MAYHEM to life exactly how I envision it. The MAYHEM Ball Tour is officially coming your way. See you soon, monsters."
