Rod Stewart turned his Glastonbury Legends Slot into a celebration of music and longtime friendships, taking over the Pyramid Stage on Sunday, June 29 with a surprise-filled set.

The 80-year-old performer ran through classic hits like Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright) and Do Ya Think I’m Sexy before bringing out a trio of guests. Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall joined him for a duet of If You Don’t Know Me by Now, while Rolling Stones member and Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood came out later to perform Stay With Me. Stewart also invited singer Lulu onstage for Hot Legs.

Before introducing his guests, Rod Stewart told the crowd:

“Now it brings me real great pleasure to bring on the stage two — what I call — legends, along with me.”

He then shared a warm hug with Wood onstage. Following their Glastonbury Legends Slot performance, he posted a message celebrating the reunion.

Wood shared backstage and on-stage moments on Instagram, writing:

"Thank you @sirrodstewart and @glastofest. It was wonderful to be back on the Pyramid Stage with my good mates Rod, @lulukc and Mick Hucknall. Had me a real good time."

The set marked Rod Stewart’s return to Glastonbury after more than two decades, having last performed in 2002. His Sunday appearance puts him among music icons like Diana Ross and James Brown who’ve also taken on the coveted Legends Slot.

Ahead of the festival, Stewart noted that part of the delay in returning had to do with finances and logistics, but emphasized his excitement about finally being back on stage.

“Only 80 once”: Rod Stewart celebrates milestone birthday with family and Faces icon

Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood also reunited offstage, celebrating Stewart’s milestone 80th birthday back in January. Wood shared photos of the night, writing:

“Really fun night celebrating Rod’s 80th!”

Stewart, in his own post, reflected:

“What an incredible journey it’s been — from unforgettable moments on and off the stage to earning some truly special honors along the way. But above all, my greatest joy has always been performing for you.”

Stewart threw a lavish party with a luxury yacht getaway surrounded by family. In an interview last May, Stewart recalled:

“We hired a massive yacht. Cost me an absolute fortune. I don’t mind — you’re only 80 once.”

The singer, known for hits like Maggie May and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, said he brought his “whole crew” along for the ride.

“I’ve got eight kids and five grandchildren, plus various boyfriends and husbands, so there were 15 of us. We had three chefs. The boat was so big that I didn’t even see some of it.”

One highlight from the trip came when his family pulled off a surprise theme night.

“We dressed up every night, with a different theme. One night, they all dressed up as Rod Stewart and didn’t tell me. My dear wife brought wigs for everybody and some of my old outfits. It was a wonderful time.”

Meanwhile, Faces drummer Kenney Jones recently revealed that they have been working on a new album, its first in 50 years.

According to Jones, the band — comprised of Jones, Rod Stewart, and The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood — recorded “about 11 tracks” so far and may release the LP sometime next year, depending on touring schedules.

In April, the drummer spoke about the project with The Telegraph:

“I can’t see it coming out this year. But I can see it coming out next year.”
