Amidst the ongoing troubles with Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., aka DDG, Halle Bailey released a new song, Braveface. At the beginning of the video, she wore a golden dress with her hair covered in golden fringes.
The lyrics of the song seem to have struck a chord with netizens, as it explores various topics and issues like motherhood, postpartum, self-esteem, and others. For instance, the opening lines are:
“Sittin' on the floor, curled up in a ball/ Lookin' in the mirror and I feel so f**kin' small/ Then I grab my makeup bag and shuffle it around/ My head is in the clouds, self-esteem is on the ground.”
In the song, Halle Bailey described feeling emotionally exhausted but still pushing herself to keep going. She compared hiding her pain to putting on makeup, using foundation, concealer, and highlighter to mask what she was going through.
Despite feeling overwhelmed, she told herself she was enough, ignored her flaws, and found the strength to appear confident and unbothered. She then touched upon using makeup in this way:
“Got my hair and my heart out, got my lipstick and my guard up/ Pretty good f**king actress, I know how to play my part up.”
Halle Bailey expressed feeling drained and unsure of when she would be able to process those emotions. She felt the pressure to hide her pain, like many women. However, all she wanted was to feel better and find something that would lift her spirits and bring her comfort.
What happened between Halle Bailey and DDG in January 2025?
The song was written in collaboration with Raye, who also appeared in the music video. According to Clash, Halle Bailey shared her thoughts about the song, saying:
“It’s reflective of the mindset I’ve been in, especially since having my baby. My mental has been everywhere.”
On May 13, 2025, Bailey got a temporary restraining order against DDG. In her request, she claimed that the couple fought in January 2025, which allegedly turned physical, during which DDG pushed her against a steering wheel. She was injured and had bruises on her arms. As per the court documents, she wrote:
“I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain.”
She also mentioned:
“Darryl lacks an understanding of how his actions impact Halo. He is often verbally abusive towards me in front of Halo.”
Halle Bailey also noted that she received a threatening message from DDG in March 2025. She claimed that DDG spoke ill of her to his fans on YouTube and streaming platforms. As a result of this, she allegedly receives hateful comments and threats on social media platforms. She also noted:
“I have done everything possible to avoid going to court. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. I cannot keep living like this.”
Last year, DDG got on a live stream with Kai Cenat and also brought Halo with him. Halle Bailey shared an X post, writing that she was not informed about it and had no idea, as she was out of town. She was upset about the incident, as she did not seem too pleased with the idea of her baby being viewed publicly by online audiences.
