Fans honor Jerry Adler as he dies at 96

New York Post took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to announce:

"Jerry Adler, 'Sopranos' star and New York native, dead at 96"

Fans were quick to pour their tributes into the comment section of the post. Below are what some of them had to say:

"RIP to a New York legend, the Sopranos won't be the same.", declared a netizen.
"What a great life. We should all be so lucky. RIP.", expressed another.
"Jerry Adler was recovering from gastric surgery when he shot the pilot for The Sopranos. He convinced his doctor to give him a day pass and returned to the hospital when filming completed. He was lucky with the wardrobe for that scene too, which easily hid his abdominal bandage.", stated a third.

Others also chimed in:

"Hesh. If I am not mistaken, he played an Indian Chief on an episode of Superman.", noted a fan.
"RIP Jerry. Loved him as Hesh and was pleased to see him in 'A Most Violent Year'. He will be missed.," penned another.
"Hesh brought such a unique element to The Sopranos. A character that truly gave the show an extra layer of charm. RIP Jerry Adler", commented a third.

Jerry Adler was born in Brooklyn on February 4, 1929. His cousin was Stella Adler, an influential acting teacher of the 20th century. Jerry began as an assistant stage manager in 1950 on Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. He worked on more than 50 Broadway productions, including the original My Fair Lady in 1956, The Apple Tree, and Harold Pinter's The Homecoming.

In 1991, Adler made his screen debut in the CBS series Brooklyn Bridge. The following year, he appeared in Joe Pesci's The Public Eye. His early on-screen roles included appearances as Mr. Wicker, the handyman on Mad About You, and Rabbi Alan Schulman on Northern Exposure.

Woody Allen cast him in Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993). Over the years, he appeared in notable films such as Getting Away With Murder (1996), In Her Shoes (2005), Synecdoche, New York (2008), and A Most Violent Year (2014).

Rest in peace, Jerry Adler.
