Musician Kevin Cronin, notable as the lead vocalist of the rock band REO Speedwagon, shared his thoughts about his touring plans. On August 12, Ultimate Classic Rock published an interview piece in which Cronin said he was unsure about what he wanted to do in the next step of his career.

Although REO Speedwagon has ceased touring, the singer is currently on the “Brotherhood of Rock” tour, which will continue till August 24. Sharing his thoughts, Cronin said:

“I'm really kind of a goal-oriented person, so the hard part is for the past 50 years, at the end of each tour, I'm used to already know what the next tour's going to be, or the next album or whatever.”

He went on:

“At the end of this tour it'll be the first time that I'm not in that situation, that I don't have a real, concrete goal that I'm working towards. So I'm trying to steel myself to that and do as much work, personally, in advance of that so that I'm ready for when it happens.”

Speaking about the ongoing tour, the singer said the tour had been fun but also had some difficulties. He explained that performing as the Kevin Cronin Band was difficult because the name REO Speedwagon and its logo were special to people.

He felt that even if his band played the same songs, people reacted differently when they saw his name instead of REO Speedwagon’s name and logo. He said:

“That's the difference between the REO name and the Kevin Cronin Band name. As much as they are similar, they represent something to people that's kind of different.”

Why did the Kevin Cronin band decide to withdraw from touring?

The interview piece mentions that Cronin’s band will stop their touring plans, as keeping the entire set-up intact is no longer feasible. He shared that he had always planned to keep the team together, but the challenges were too big, and he couldn’t promise to pay the crew.

He explained that booking shows as REO Speedwagon would have been easy, but doing it as the Kevin Cronin Band was much harder than he expected. According to him:

“At this point (the crew) had no choice but to make themselves available, and they have my total love and my total support. They're so great. They're my family. They're my brothers and sisters. Most of our crew has been with us 15, 20 years.”

Kevin Cronin went on:

“Some of them already have great offers. It's heartbreaking for me, but at the same time I love them and I want what's best for them. I've told them all, 'If you need a reference, you've got my number.’”

Kevin Cronin said that the audience reacted to his shows this year the same way they had in past years. He believed people loved the songs and valued seeing the original singer perform them live.

He added that he enjoyed the songs just as much as the fans and that his shows still gave people the same REO Speedwagon experience, not just new solo music.
