Taylor Swift's fans are already lining up for a special treat.
On Sunday, September 7, Target began offering three exclusive CD editions of The Life of a Showgirl for pre-order on its website, each including a double-sided poster and alternate cover art.
Swifties — Taylor Swift's devoted fanbase — will also be greeted by unique cover design labels: "It's Frightening," "It's Beautiful," and "It's Rapturous".
These themes previously emerged in a limited pre-sale through the pop star's webstore, where all copies sold out almost immediately. The earlier batch, however, included photo cards and jewelry instead of posters.
Target confirmed that select U.S. store locations will open at midnight local time on release day. The company has also posted a full list of participating stores by state on its website. Pre-ordered CDs will ship on or shortly after October 3.
"Infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic": Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl draws inspiration from the Eras Tour
Taylor Swift first broke the news of her music return on August 12, when she made a special appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by her beau, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason.
Her appearance, at the time, marked her debut appearance, and she chose the podcast for her new album reveal.
During the episode, Taylor Swift also disclosed that the project will contain 12 tracks, a subtle nod to its place as the pop star's 12th studio album.
Simultaneously, the cover art — featuring the pop star dipped in a bathtub under a mint-green lighting — was published through her Instagram, while the caption announced the creatives behind the project: her longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, whom she also considers her mentors.
The artist has worked with them for her previous hits We Are Never Getting Back Together, Shake It Off, Delicate, and Blank Space.
The singer wrote in her caption:
"And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3."
Meanwhile, at one point during the podcast episode, the Maroon hitmaker confessed that The Life of a Showgirl is inspired by her recently concluded Eras Tour.
"This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during [the Eras] tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life, and so that effervescence has come through on this record."
The Life of a Showgirl follows Taylor Swift’s 2024 release, The Tortured Poets Department. With the promise of fresh music, multiple editions, and a steady stream of exclusive merch, the spotlight remains firmly on Swift as she prepares her next act.
