The MTV VMAs announced their Best Group nominees on August 29. All-girl K-pop group BLACKPINK was also nominated. In 2023, the group won the VMA award in the "Best Group" category and became the first girl group to clinch the title in 24 years after TLC won the award in 1999. Last year, the title was grabbed by SEVENTEEN.
This year, all the group members have also been nominated in the "Best K-Pop" category and now the quartet has been nominated in the "Best Group" category. This makes BLACKPINK the first group in history to receive nominations both collectively and individually in the same year in the MTV Video Music Awards history.
The nomination of the group brought a flurry of reactions from the group's fans.
"Nobody is touching them. Imagine being so successful as a group then also successful as a soloist. Only #BLACKPINK," a fan reacted.

As the K-Pop group made history, fans started praising the group and its members. One of the fans called the The Pink Venom creators the "Sultans of Groups." Others admired the group for its individual success as well as the achievements of its members.
"The first and only... there has never been anyone like them, there never will be... The Sultans of Groups," a user commented.
"Dare I say BLACKPINK is one and only group where all four members are successful?and have their own individuality and own aura which do not overshadowed others in the group?," another netizen wrote.
"Im not exaggerating when i say blackpink are truly the most talented and biggest group in history," a fan expressed.
As the nomination became public, the fans started advocating to vote for the group to secure its win at the 2025 VMAs. A cheered and hoped for the winning speech by BLACKPINK.
"YESSS!!! I want them to win and give the most cutest speech together," another user added.
"I haven’t voted since last time they were nominated for this category. Time to get back to work," a netizen wrote.
"We need voters for vote and all shooters promote this vote," a user commented.
The nomination came a month after the global K-pop phenoms released their single Jump.
The 2025 MTV VMAs are scheduled to take place on September 7. The Moonperson gala organizers have been unveiling the nominations in different categories. On August 29, the "Best Group" category nominees were unveiled. Here is the list of all nominees in the category:
