Kelly Clarkson postponed the opening night of her Studio Sessions Las Vegas residency on July 4, just hours before she was set to take the stage at Caesars Palace.
An insider familiar with the situation told Page Six that Kelly Clarkson's powerful vocal performances have put her voice at risk.
“She belts out every single note. She’s an incredibly powerful singer, but it takes its toll on her vocal cords and she’s come incredibly close to needing surgery before.”
The insider added:
“She cannot risk damaging her cords further. She’s on thin ice.”
Another source mentioned that Kelly Clarkson has been managing undisclosed “serious hidden battles” that have added to the strain.
“Kelly’s personal life is so insanely complicated. It’s a source of emotional, and therefore, physical distress for her.”
“So disrespectful”: Kelly Clarkson faces backlash after last-minute Vegas cancelation
Kelly Clarkson addressed the cancellation in an X (Twitter) post on July 4, hours before the scheduled performance.
“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice.”
She further said:
“I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage. So I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.”
The statement went on:
“The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”
While some fans offered support in the comments, others expressed frustration, particularly those who had traveled and spent significant amounts of money to attend.
“I hope you feel better Kelly and want the best for you but regulations/ticketing protections for fans need to be put in place. Fans spending thousands to fly and book hotel rooms for a concert that gets canceled while people are in line to get in is wrong,” @THMom7 wrote.
“And what about those of us who booked trips to Vegas just to see you? No concern for us? Super disappointed in you and your team. The staff at Caesar’s are so rude and were like 'Kelly’s not the only one performing here, get over it.' So disrespectful,” @Cliftonmcdnl commented.
“I get it. However, I feel bad for people that spent money to fly out to Vegas, book their hotel, all to be told 2 hours later — the show has been postponed. I was going to check out your show since I’ll be in Vegas on 7/25 to see @Beyonce. Glad I didn’t buy a ticket. Feel better!” @maryonthemove posted.
“How can u possibly give us what we deserve wen we paid to get to Vegas today, now won’t be seeing you, selfish, inconsiderate and damn right rude, it’s all well and good getting a refund for tickets but what about the rest that we all paid out to come, shame on you,” @nuttyha said.
