Despite stepping back from her Eras Tour and embracing some downtime with boyfriend Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift appears to be quietly preparing for her next musical chapter.
According to a Sun insider, the global pop icon was spotted filming a brand-new music video in Los Angeles this week. The source described the set:
"It was so top secret that those working on set were not even allowed to hear the song, only the beat.”
While fans had expected a break following The Tortured Poets Department, her eleventh studio album released in April 2024, Taylor Swift may already be working on what comes next. The same insider added:
“Even though she’s been taking time off from touring and working a lot to spend time with Travis, there are still projects she’s working on, which will no doubt please fans.”
Taylor Swift’s core fanbase, always on high alert for easter eggs, recently pointed to cryptic countdowns on her official Taylor Nation account. Some believe they’re leading to a surprise release in early August.
If true, it would continue her eight-year streak of dropping new music annually since 2016.
“My entire life’s work”: Taylor Swift on finally owning her art
Taylor Swift’s latest creative moves also follow a major industry victory last May: she now owns the rights to her entire back catalog, including unreleased material, music videos, concert films, and artwork — a culmination of her highly-publicized, years-long battle over her master recordings.
In an open letter she published on her official website, the "Fortnight" songstress wrote:
“All of the music I've ever made now belongs to me. All of my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and the photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic and the madness. Every single era. My entire life's work.”
She also expressed her gratitude to her fans.
“To my fans, you know how important this has been to me - so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version.”
The singer went on:
“The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music. I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.”
Taylor Swift called the $360 million deal to reclaim her catalog her ultimate goal: total creative autonomy.
With filming underway and speculation intensifying, one thing’s clear: Taylor Swift may be out of sight for now, but her next era is already in motion. Whether it’s a standalone single or part of something bigger, fans likely won’t have to wait long.
