For many fans around the world, j-hope represents more than just music and performance, he represents hope. And while he doesn’t take that title lightly, he approaches it with quiet pride and sincerity.
In his exclusive interview with Billboard Korea, the BTS rapper and solo artist opened up about what it means to carry such a powerful label.
"Just as I drew inspiration from the artists I admired growing up, shaping my own music through their influence, I’d be honored if my work could inspire others and pass on that same positive energy — that would mean the world to me.”
He continued:
“Above all, I hope to continue growing into an artist who brings light and encouragement to others wherever I go."
That sense of purpose was at the core of his Hope on the Street solo tour, where he poured his energy into every part of the experience.
“Embracing my identity as j-hope, I found myself reflecting more deeply on the true essence of hope. I realized it’s not something to be taken lightly, so I wanted to channel that sincerity into my music and bring it to life through Hope on the Stage, sharing it with as many people as possible."
j-hope revealed that he was fully involved behind the scenes, from visuals to choreography.
"I was hands-on with everything — stage design, choreography, fashion and even the props — pouring my heart into every aspect. I hope the audience left with a sense of genuine positivity and inspiration. Moving forward, I want to keep creating authentic performances that unite everyone through the power of music."
j-hope opens up about his deep love for fashion and personal style
Meanwhile, it’s not just his music that fans look to for inspiration. The MONA LISA hitmaker is also widely admired for his sharp and flashy style choices. However, he doesn’t see himself as a fashion star.
"Ever since I was young, I’ve had a genuine passion for clothes. I don’t really see myself as a fashionista — I just have a deep, genuine love for fashion. To me, clothing is a powerful way to express my identity."
Even during BTS world tours, j-hope made time to explore local boutiques, letting those experiences shape his fashion sense. He selected every outfit for his Hope on the Street tour, indicating that his aesthetic isn’t curated for the spotlight but from the heart.
"For my solo world tour, I handpicked every outfit for each performance, ensuring every look was distinct. I believe my approach to fashion adds a fun, dynamic element for fans to enjoy while watching my shows."
