The Veils, the indie rock band fronted by Finn Andrews, has created its latest work milestone with Asphodels. It is their seventh studio album, which was recorded in Auckland's Roundhead Studios and released in January 2025.
To support the album, The Veils have announced a short Australian tour for November 2025. The run is being presented by Banished Music. This newly announced tour will bring the band back to Australian stages for the first time in several years. With only two stops, Melbourne and Sydney, the run is set to be an intimate one. Tickets are available now via the band's official website.
The Veils took to their official Instagram page to announce the upcoming Australian tour. Their post read:
"Australia! Delighted to announce we are returning to your glorious shores this November! THE VEILS | AUSTRALIA 2025. NOVEMBER 5 | NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB, MELBOURNE. NOVEMBER 6 | OXFORD ARTS FACTORY, SYDNEY. Tickets on sale now from theveils.com"
The Veils first emerged in the early 2000s. The group initially signed to Rough Trade when Andrews was still a teenager. Their debut album was The Runaway Found, which was officially released in 2004. They gradually evolved through multiple lineup changes. Subsequent releases such as Nux Vomica (2006) and Sun Gangs (2009) were met with notable acclaim from fans and enthusiasts.
Their music has appeared in the works of directors like Paolo Sorrentino, Tim Burton, and David Lynch. Notably, they also made a guest appearance in Twin Peaks: The Return.
Speaking about their latest record, Asphodels, Finn Andrews stated:
"I think after your 7th album, much like turning 40, you should really just stop counting. I have learned a lot along the way, which I suppose is the whole point, and I have really distilled it all into these 9 songs."
He also added:
"As always, I really just write about love and death, it's a compulsion, and that is once again the case here. But I feel as though I have never been able to express this stuff rattling about in my brain quite as directly until now. I have rarely felt proud of anything I have made for very long, but this one feels different. It's built on a strong foundation I think."
The Veils' latest record borrows its title from the mythical flower associated with the Greek underworld. Orchestral arrangements were done by Victoria Kelly.
