Following years of feud with record executive Scooter Braun, Taylor Swift has regained ownership of her song catalog. The singer posted a carousel on her Instagram, holding her records, and captioned it:
“You belong with me. Letter on my site :)”
However, an insider told People Magazine that this achievement was due to the singer and her team’s hard work, and Braun had no role to play in it. The statement read:
“Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who ‘encouraged’ this sale. All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor’s Nashville-based management team only.”
The insider also mentioned:
“Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.”
For context, Taylor Swift’s song catalog was first sold to Scooter Braun, who then sold it to Shamrock Capital. The insider’s statement comes after reports went viral claiming that Braun played a role in letting Shamrock Capital make the deal with Swift.
However, after the news of the ownership acquisition went viral, Braun released a statement:
“I am happy for her.”
As per the outlet, Taylor Swift said she learned about Scooter Braun buying her master recordings at the same time the public did. She felt hurt and betrayed, especially because she believed he had bullied her for years.
She was upset that he ended up owning the music she had worked so hard on, without her being given a fair chance to purchase it herself.
Taylor Swift found it difficult to believe she could get back every era of her career
After getting her ownership back, Taylor Swift took to her website and posted an open letter where she shared that she struggled to put her emotions into words because her mind was filled with memories.
She reflected on the times when she had hoped, dreamed, and nearly reached the moment she was finally able to share this news, only for it to fall apart each time. She had almost given up on the idea that she could see this day. Taylor Swift wrote:
“All of the music I've ever made... now belongs... to me. And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life's work.”
Taylor Swift shared that she had been overwhelmed with happy tears ever since learning that her dream had finally come true. As mentioned, the ownership includes her songs, music videos, concert films, and other entities, which were an important part of her career.
She said this moment was more than a dream come true. To make it happen, she had re-recorded and released four of her albums as Taylor’s Version, and the strong support from her fans, along with the success of The Eras Tour.
She expressed deep gratitude to her fans for helping her reclaim the art she had spent her life creating but hadn’t truly owned until then.
