On August 12, X account @patriottakes posted a video of Lara Trump singing Tom Petty’s I Won’t Back Down at the Westchester golf club. Social media users were quick to react, as one X user reshared the video and wrote:
“Tom Petty is rolling over in his grave.”
While a few X users complimented Lara Trump’s singing skills, others asked if it was from a karaoke. A social media user commented:
“Lara’s not bad – seriously."
An online commentator wrote:
“She did good, I didn’t realize she could sing.”
A netizen reacted:
“Oh my good Lord. Is it karaoke night? The second hand embarrassment is strong.”
Netizens had balanced reactions towards Lara Trump’s singing. A platform user claimed:
“I mean she isn't horrible, but she's not very good either. Just trying to call balls and strikes.”
Another X user asked:
“Didn't Tom Petty's family send a cease and desist letter demanding that the Trump's stop using his songs?”
A netizen commented:
“Holy f*ck!!!! She’s still trying to sing! I thought she’d know better by now! And I’m sure the estate of icon Tom Petty will be in touch."
An internet user remarked:
“And the crowd goes mid.”
In 2020, Petty’s representatives sent a cease and desist letter to Trump for using the same song during the Presidential campaign. They said that Trump was not allowed to use his song for a campaign that they felt ignored many Americans. They explained that Tom Petty and his family were strongly against racism and discrimination, and he would never want his music linked to hate.
Lara Trump and Eric Trump on dating, their wedding, and having kids
Lara Trump married Eric Trump in 2014. In an old interview with Fox News, she was asked how she met Eric. She said she and Eric first saw each other while out with friends. Lara mentioned that since they were probably the tallest people in the room, they noticed each other right away. She felt curious about him and hoped he felt the same. It took them about three months to finally go on a date. She also said:
“We got engaged five years and two days actually after our first date.”
After dating for two years, she and Eric got a pet dog, which she said took a lot of convincing. When the interviewer asked Eric how he became sure that Lara Trump was the one, he said:
“First of all, I love the southern charm. I don't know there was just something great.”
Speaking about having kids, Eric said:
“Well, Don has five. Ivanka has three. So, we have I think a basketball team right there right so, you know, we could probably get away with a few less but honestly we love kids and it's a special thing about our family.”
Lara Trump shared that about three weeks before her wedding, she broke both her wrists while riding a horse in Bedford. Despite that, she said the wedding went well, and she enjoyed it so much. No one could even tell her wrists were broken because they were camouflaged by her wedding dress.
