It was the end of an era, as Jack Osbourne knew it. The 39-year-old son of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne fought back tears as he recalled watching his father take the stage one final time, just weeks before the Prince of Darkness' passing.
Speaking on Good Morning America for his GMA Cover Story on Monday, Oct. 6, Jack Osbourne shared his memories of his dad, who performed on stage in July for the show Back to the Beginning. The event also featured fellow rock stars and members of Black Sabbath.
Jack Osbourne then welled up as he reminisced about his father.
"Before he went onstage, I ran back into the dressing room, and I just gave him a big hug. I just kissed him. I was like, 'Crush it. You're gonna do so good.'"
Recalling, Ozzy Osbourne delivered a five-track setlist in Back to the Beginning, taking over the stage with his hits "I Don't Know," "Mr. Crowley," "Mama, I'm Coming Home," "S**cide Solution," and "Crazy Train."
Jack Osbourne recalls crying in the crowd for his dad Ozzy’s final show
Jack Osbourne remembered being in the crowd, watching his father's performance.
"And I was crying. I was in the crowd... There was this area in the crowd, and I was with my brother. And we both were just crying."

But the rock icon's son clarified that he was neither feeling sad nor sorry for his dad, explaining:
"I think it was because we knew it was his last time. In hindsight, it kind of was a living wake if you think about it. He got to say goodbye to everyone."
He also spoke candidly about his mother, Sharon Osbourne. According to him, she was not prepared for the "outpour of love" that the family received following Ozzy's death. As to how she copes with the loss of her husband, Jack Osbourne shared:
"She's okay, but she's not okay."
In September, Sharon finally spoke out, sharing with fans through Instagram how she was coping two months after Ozzy's passing. She wrote:
"I’m still having trouble finding the words to express how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and support you’ve shown on social media. Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know. None of it has gone unnoticed, in fact, it’s carried me through many nights."
She accompanied her lengthy message with a video of her feeding a bird through her falconry gauntlet. Beside her is her daughter, Kelly Osbourne. Sharon continued:
"Though I’m still finding my footing, I wanted to share some glorious creatures I had the chance to spend an afternoon with. The connection you make with these powerful birds is built entirely on trust and confidence. They’ll choose to perch on you only if they sense you are safe and unafraid of them. It’s a bond I know all too well, and the experience was nothing short of magical."
Sharon ended her message by expressing gratitude to those who extended their love and support during her time of mourning.
Meanwhile, during his Good Morning America interview, Jack Osbourne opened up about coming to terms with his father's death, sharing that it forced him to confront a thought most people try to avoid: imagining life without their parents.
"I think every child sits there and has this thought about one day their parents won't be there, and what will that be like? It's just a part of being human. We just didn't think of it."
