Music artist Michael Tait, lead vocalist of Newsboys, has responded to the controversial allegations against him. On June 4, 2025, The Roys Report published a story mentioning that Tait had physically assaulted people in the past.

The media outlet investigated the matter for some years and interviewed people, of whom three men raised certain allegations against him. Two of them accused Tait of s*xually groping them. Of the two men, one person mentioned being given intoxicants by the lead vocalist during a tour.

All three men were in their early twenties back then. Meanwhile, the third person said Tait inappropriately touched him without his consent. Meanwhile, on June 10, Michael Tait shared his statement on Instagram, agreeing to some of the claims. He wrote:

“Recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse and s*xual activity are sadly, largely true. For some two decades I used and abused cocaine, consumed far too much alcohol, and, at times, touched men in an unwanted sensual way. I am ashamed of my life choices and actions, and make no excuses for them.”

He described his actions as wrong in a spiritual way. Michael Tait said he didn’t blame anyone else and acknowledged that while he might not agree with every detail of the accusations, he accepted their overall truth.

He parted ways with Newsboys at the beginning of this year to seek help. At that time, he struggled physically and spiritually and no longer wanted to live a double life.

Michael Tait spent six weeks in a treatment facility in Utah, which he believed may have saved him from complete ruin. Since then, he had remained clean and sober, though he acknowledged that he still had a long journey of healing ahead.

“I will live with that shameful reality” – Michael Tait says only God could forgive him

The singer admitted that he had spent years living a double life, hiding the truth from his loved ones, fans, and even his bandmates. He said his actions went against the values he was raised with, causing deep spiritual conflict.

However, for the past six months, he had been living with honesty and relying completely on his faith to move forward. Michael Tait wrote:

“I have hurt so many people in so many ways, and I will live with that shameful reality the rest of my life. I can only dream and pray for human forgiveness, because I certainly don't deserve it. I have even accepted the thought that God may be the only One who ultimately and completely forgives me.”

He went on:

“Still, I want to say I'm sorry to everyone I have hurt. I am truly sorry. It is my hope and prayer that all those I have hurt will receive healing, mercy, and hope from the Merciful Healer and Hope-Giver.”

Michael Tait said he was committed to his healing and repentance privately. He understood if people lost trust or respect for him, but what hurt him most was the thought that his actions might have caused someone to turn away from their faith in Jesus.
