Rapper Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, has spoken up against the recent criticism of Wayne’s 14th solo studio album, Tha Carter VI. On June 15, 2025, she went on a social media livestream, where she responded to the online criticism. She said:

“You said Carter VI is trash. That’s fine. That’s what you want to say but let me tell you something my father and Carter VI. This is what I hate about kids. The fact that you all can get on TikTok and do a f*cking dance to it, that don’t mean it’s trash, babes. Okay?”

She went on:

“The fact that you can get on TikTok and do a little, little one two, little viral moment, that don’t mean it’s trash, babe. My dad was talking real sh*t. It’s stuff on that album that you can hear in 2K, in games, at f*cking malls, at all type of stuff. It’s universal, my love.”

She said people needed to stop thinking in terms of short, viral videos and start paying attention to real music, because Lil Wayne was a true lyricist who had a lot to say. She added that anyone who didn’t understand that should keep quiet and leave.

According to The Shade Room, Carter also spoke up for Lil Wayne in February 2025, when he performed with The Roots at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special.

Reginae Carter called out those who didn’t enjoy the performance. She said her father had always loved performing and was being his true self on stage. She pointed out that while he got paid for doing what he loved, the people who were criticizing him gained nothing from their negativity.

What did Wyclef Jean say about Lil Wayne?

During a conversation with Rolling Stone in April 2025, Lil Wayne was asked about taking a vacation. The rapper casually explained that for him, making music was his version of taking a break.

He didn’t see the point of traditional vacations, since he believed that time off should be spent doing what you love. For him, that meant making music, even while away. In the interview piece, Haitian singer Wyclef Jean shared his thoughts about the rapper. Jean said:

“You got to think like how people study Bach and Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis and Shakespeare. He’s going to be regarded as one of the greatest renaissance wordsmith composers of our generation.”

Lil Wayne compared himself to a player-coach who was still performing at a high level, saying he didn’t feel overlooked just because people didn’t always credit him for his behind-the-scenes influence.

He was fine being recognized as one of the best rappers, and if people later discovered his role in launching artists like Drake or owning Young Money, that was just a bonus.

Talking about Tha Carter VI, he said the difference this time was his mindset as he approached the project by imagining what he would sound like working with other artists.

Wyclef Jean joked that locking the two of them in a studio for a full day could lead to unpredictable results. Lil Wayne explained that Wyclef had a way of taking one track and flipping it into several new ones, often turning one idea into eight different songs.
