Sound of Guns debuted in 2008. The English alternative rock band was based in Liverpool, England, and formed after disbanding an earlier band in 2007. Andrew Metcalfe and Simon Finley, the founding members, took a new step with Nathan Crowley, producing and recording songs that led to their success. They played energetically, emotionally and gave good stage performances that soon made them have a faithful following in the UK. In their early years, the band tried its best to define its sound.

They recorded their first songs in 2008 and released their debut album, What Came From Fire, on June 28, 2010. The band was finished with the addition of John Coley following the opening hometown performance at Liverpool. Since that time, the Sound of Guns became a familiar name in the UK rock music, which was characterized by a high rate of touring and a relationship with the fans.

On October 28, 2025, the band said, the band leader Andrew Metcalfe died at the age of 42. The news caused a flood of sorrowful feelings in fans and musicians worldwide. Metcalfe continued to be remembered by tributes because of his leadership and songwriting, as well as his contribution to the British rock music. His demise was a sad event to people who had been with the band since the beginning.

Andrew Metcalfe, Simon Finley, and Nathan Crowley came together after Finley and Metcalfe’s earlier band broke up in 2007. Early in 2008, they began writing and recording a mixture of guitar sounds and modern rock. The local venues and internet channels readily supported their music, which helped them to grow a small yet steadily increasing fan base.

Their initial live performance was supplemented by the addition of John Coley, which made the group complete. His presence was useful in strengthening their performances and organizing their sound. The band also issued a number of singles and their debut album, which got some airplay and recognition at music festivals in the UK. What Came From Fire was their breakthrough project and it was the beginning of their professional success. Sound of Guns also toured extensively in the UK and Europe following the release of their first album.

Their live performances made them reach out to new audiences and to establish themselves as one of the most interesting modern rock bands in Liverpool. In 2012, they had accumulated enough momentum to release their second album, Angels and Enemies, which reflected their development as a band.

Today, we are heartbroken. We’re sad to say that our friend, brother, and frontman of Sound of Guns, Andrew Metcalfe has sadly passed away. First and foremost our love and thoughts go out to his family at this terribly sad time. We love you. Andy was one of the greatest frontmen to ever grace a stage. His presence was unmatched, his songwriting was incredible and his voice was one of a kind. A true artist, performer, lyricist and just a genuinely lovely man.

We take solace in the fact that his music and lyrics touched so many of you and the tributes and stories we have read are simply beautiful to read. So thank you. We appreciate them and we know his family do too. We are thankful for the short time we had with him and the amazing things we did as a band. We saw incredible things, played incredible stages and met incredible people. We made incredible music together that changed our lives and connected with millions. It’s hard to articulate what Andy meant to us.As Andy said “Still the words dont say what you want to say” we can never fully convey what he meant to us, to you and to his family. We would love if you could drop photos and memories in the comments below so his family can read them. Rock in peace brother. Your voice and music lives on forever. Love from Simon, Nathan, Coley, Lee and our manager, Paul.
